I hate that term..honestly someone who wears a size 8 is plus size? stupidist thing I have ever heard.

Runway models are by and large hideously ugly anyway..they may be stick thin..but it doesn't look good on most of them..and it is rare for one to have a pretty face..that I have seen. VS models are nice looking..but they are on the larger end of models..believe it or not...

bottom line? Runway models are choosen by designers to show their clothing...who are designers?...GAY MEN...so they pick the most boyish looking women...skinny sticks with no curves..no booty..no chest...why would anyone take these women as their inspiration for looks?

I never thought I was fat when I was younger - wore a size 10 - 38-26-36 and athletic.

I believe term is Sh*t Brick House.

Happy to be a 14 - still get more looks than the anorexics - men are drawn to curves.

Yup..thats it..my grandmother called me that..I was offended at first until she explained it was a compliment :killingme

I don't mean that size 8 is normal..but to walk on a runway with your collarbone holding your purse instead of your hand...is def not.

Why do you care is more the issue. We're not in Hollywood we're in SoMD and it's very apparent every where you look. Instead of being offended what anyone in the fashion industry says be happy that at a size 6-8 you're thinner than 90% of the population in which you live.

Whome darling, we're just TOO perfect. :lmao: :smoochy:

That's the thing though, I don't think that normal women or even teenage girls feel any pressure. Maybe more need to so we wouldn't have the obesity problem we do in this country. :lmao: Anyone who thinks that they have to be grossly underweight and look like Skeletor to be attractive needs a check up from the neck up and I'm willing to bet there are a lot of emotional issues going on and weight is just the tip of the iceberg.

I started a thread a while back about chubby/fat women telling thin women that they're too thin all the time. I'm thin and have been told 34857309875 times by friends, coworker, etc that I'm too thin. I've never had a doctor in my life have one thing to say about my weight. But I have all these "average" women say things to me all the time.

Then there's the women that will chime in shortly that are naturally thin, and wondering why they can't be considered 'normal' as well. Which they should be.

Thing is, there is no typical woman's body. The fashion industry just chooses to exploit the smaller extreme for whatever reason rather than the naturally various body types.

They could at least start putting a range of sizes on the runway, so that the thinner, athletic, and voluptuous shapes can be admired instead of shoving skin and bones down our throat. It's not always an achievable goal, and it's giving more people BDD every day.

I can't remember where I read this but I saw a stat somewhere that said the average American woman is a size 10. I'll google it a bit. I also thought I read that size 10 is what a plus size model is.

Nothing is being shoved down your throat. I can't remember when the last time I watched a runway show. You can't chose to subject yourself to it and then turn around and biatch about it.

The point of a runway model is to be a walking clothes hanger, so of course they need to be rail thin.

Well when I watch stuff like that (Project Runway in particular) I watch it because I enjoy the fashions. It would just be nice to see fashions for different shapes now and then. You know, besides thin and flat.

I don't understand the whole outrage over weight, honestly... more people should learn to love the skin their in  Life's too short, and like the tract I got in Vegas says, "Statistics say 10 out of 10 people will die." You can choose to biatch and moan about your weight (or lack there of), or you can choose to accept you as yourself and try to be the healthiest person you can. Not everyone was built to be a size 2, just like not everyone was built to be a size 22.

I thankfully carry my weight proportionally and I get told two things with regularity-that people would love to be my weight or that I need to gain weight. My response to both is simple-"How much do you think I weigh?" The average is between 115-125. I'm 140 with dimension 35,29,35(currently 12 weeks pregnant). The beauty of that question is it makes the people that wish to be my weight realize that they are already pretty close and in turn, it makes them feel better about themselves. At the same time it shuts the people up that say I need to gain weight since I am well within the weight range I should be.

Why do you care is more the issue.

It's the chicanery of the whole thing. A plus size is larger than a 16 or 18 - 1x, 2x, etc. To have a size 8 model touted as "plus size" is dishonest and ridiculous.

Not to mention that models are taller than average. So we're not talking about a 5'3" size 8.

I did a report in College on "Vanity Sizing." Yes, the "average" American woman is a size 10... but the size 10 is altered to fit the average American woman. For example, we always hear that Marilyn Monroe was a size 16 :eyebrow: Do not get your hopes up, my friends. A size "16" in the 1940's and 50's is close to a today's size 8. :jameo: They fluctuate sizes because they have found that in tha fashion industry, a woman would rather buy a size 10 than a size 14...and she is willing to pay more money to do so.

I wear a size 9 or 10 usually (I am 5'7'' so I am thick)... when I tried on a pair of my mom's old shorts from the 70's/80's I couldn't even get them over my thighs.... :frown:

Yep. I often buy vintage dresses and skirts and get a medium which is sometimes snug. I'm 5'4, 112#s and a size 2. When a medium is snug there have been some changes in sizes.

I have been told the same thing many, many, times. I’m 5’4” – 125 lbs (size 4). People guess my weight at 115. There is not a weight chart in the world that would say that I’m under-weight and my doctor has also never told me to gain weight.

I wish people would stop being so rude and keep their mouth shut. I have a friend who has always be super thin. Everyone thinks she is sick or something. We were out one day and someone had the balls to ask her if she was anorexic. She broke out in tears and i ended up yelling at the stupid lady. It is nobodies business if you are sick or not. WTF? You have to wonder what his response would have been. Or what was going through his head.

"Hmm... I wonder if I can get this girl to admit she's anorexic, and then maybe she'll go get help."

Or maybe she'll burst into tears because everyone's always telling her she's too thin or wondering if she's sick, and is completely self-conscious about it. Thanks, guy.
