Horehound was used as cough medicine back in the day. My great-grandfather used to give me horehound drops when I was sick as a little girl. Apparently some demented souls actually enjoy it, for the nostalgia or because they like to torture themselves, so it's become a candy.

Well, I tried one yesterday and made it half way through before I'd had enough.
Good gawd.

Ever try salmiak?
That is easily the worst tasting thing I've ever had in my mouth - didn't last more than maybe a second or two. :twitch:

Salt licorice. High ammonia essence. I tried a piece at Licorice International when I was in Lincoln - I think you were with me. Made me paw my nose like a dog. :dead:

I must be one of those sick, demented people, I still use the cough drops to this day.

Taste like a cross between mashed crab shell juice that has been in the sun for a few days and something else I can't quite figure out...kerosene?

Maybe that's why it works on those coughs so well, it not only repels the germs it down right kills them! :lmao:

Well, I think you got a point there! I sure haven't coughed since I tried it!
