I want one of these. I think they look cool and I want one on the deck. My husband just built a tiki bar and added a screened in porch to our deck. I want to be able to be on the deck when it's cooler and when we smoke (we don't smoke in the house). We'll probably get a new fire pit for longer periods. My question is, does anyone have one of these and what do they think? How well does it heat?

Just leave your house door open... I remember mom always yelling, "What the hell... close that door! You're heating up the neighborhood!" :tantrum:

It works in the summer with my refrigerator.

They work well. Old Stein Inn has them in their beer garten. They're for radiant heat meaning you sit near it. They will not heat the surrounding open area.

Have no personal experience with one but my wife and sil are addicted to the home channel, and upon watching it one night they did a show where they used that exact one on a deck and told the homeowners they would love it, and the homeowners said they did in a follow up interview on the show. I agree with Baja's post it will not heat up the entire covered patio but will heat well when in close proximity.

I'm not looking to heat up the screened in area because we have a corrugated plastic type roof on it so it sounds like it will do the job.

The specs say it heats an area of 20 square feet - thats 4 feet by 5 feet.

Stand right next to it and you'll be fine - 7 or 8 feet and there'll be marginal effect..

I'd rather use a chimera. Something very soothing about watching a fire and listening to the crackle vs the low roar of a gas flame.

I agree and we're going to get another one of those but I just wabt something I can turn on quickly if I want heat and hot have to start a fire. We'll use the chiminea or fire pit if we'll be sitting around long term.

Where I stayed in Palmdale Ca a while back, they had like 5 of these out on their patio/smoking area outside the hotel bar... They never turned them on when we were there because it didn't get that chilly at night, but I didn't think they could be that good if they had 5 of them in the small area they were in :ohwell:
