I have a ferral mother that I fed during an ice storm a few years ago then she vanished. She showed up again about 8 months ago and we have been feeding her. She is very ferral and hisses and growls but then will allow a cautious petting. A month ago I discovered in my garage a little white blurr run across the floor and realized our ferral was a mamma! We have been feeding them and sheltering them but I do have a cat that I want to protect in the event she has any diseases. I am willing maintain momma(I don't
think she would ever come in) and possibly adopt baby. The baby is eating kitten chow. I am not sure of it's age. How can I trap them and have them medically tended to. I don't want mamma to keep having litters and I want to be sure they are healthy. I don't want to jepardize the health of our pet. I called a couple of numbers I found on Petfinder and left messages but I have not gotten any replies. Any ideas? Thanks!

Thanks for your help. I will work on calling them today! I am going to try to keep the kitten if she is healthy as I want to keep a friend for momma. She seems like she has lived a lonely hard life.

Live Keeper Trap. Have heard you can borrow them from the animal shelter. Bait it with some food. That's what I did this summer and I caught 4 kittens. 1 got away when I tried to transfer it to a carrier. The other 3 all tamed down nicely. All 3 fixed. Kept 1 and placed 2. Many organizations will do free/low cost fixing.
Saw momma cat earlier this week. Gonna try again to catch her and get her fixed.

I am in the hughesville area. I have just gotten answering machines with Lucky ones and Humane Society so far. I am wondering if I need 2 traps as I am not sure I could get both in at the same time. Do they trap shut when they go in? No way I can pick up momma without risking life and limb!!! The kitten seems to want to be approached but flees when mom starts growling! I know she isn't rabid as she growled years ago during the ice storm too!! Thanks again everyone!

The traps close up when the animal steps on the pressure plate, trapping the animal inside.
I caught 2 kittens at 1 time.
PM Kaitlin. She has traps, carriers and some "trap forks" you use to partition the trap when trying to transfer the animal from trap to carrier.
