Conditions today for freshwater pond fishing were tough. Patterns were hard to identify and fish were difficult to locate, but we still managed to catch some quality fish - including a very nice chain pickerel which was just short of MD citation size at 22 inches.

Slavens pier is a jog down the road - I believe that too is Mattawoman creek. That too is a GREAT spot for bass and big cats! :buddies: As a matter of fact, I think they used to have the Citgo Bassmater tournament out of there every spring.:buddies:

Cool!! Still got good bass and cats  Glad to see the improvements. :yay: They were closed for a year or two about 4 years ago for renovation - glad to see the improvements! The park before the pier was always Mattingly Park... guess they have Slavens pier part of it now too. Eitherway, great place for bass, cats, white perch, yellow perch, a few gar early in the year, carp and bluegill too !:buddies:

I think you can go gar-giggin' or this. I didn't have any luck with it though. :ohwell: How to Make GAR Fish Lures out of Nylon | eHow.com (http://www.ehow.com/how_5458595_make-fish-lures-out-nylon.html) Object was to snag up the teeth.

I wasnt sure what I'd do with one after I caught it so I wasn't to determined to keep trying. I was suprised to see them there the first time. They also have pickerl.
