Would like opinions on agressive doctors for Lymes in Calvert Co. Are they willing to fight with insurance to get a grosman line in longer if you need it? Does Nasr treat Lymes? How is Tham or Pomillo? Daugther has had grosman in since aug 18. Her current tdoctor is too far to go.

My daughter goes to Pomilla. He is very good. She had a pic line in for 2 months and he had to fight the insurance company to keep it in. They wanted to only cover treatment for 30 days.

I know of a groshong picc line.
The Groshong is a port in the chest, when they say Pic it is usually considered an IV in your arm.
From what I have been told.

So which is easier to care for? I am medical dummy.... can't stand these medical things so I need easy as possible ....
I'll do whatever the doc says but would like more info on both before I do it... just in case...
Also found out that the number for ability to fight off infection is only 46.... not 200 like it's supossed to be so I need to be concerned about possibility of infection...
PS... my heart is already skipping a beat and pausing.... so now I'm a tad bit worried about damage...

I got my PICC 2 wks ago and have had no problems with it. My arm was a little sore a few days afterwards but nothing major. I got one of these Buy CVS Shower Sleeve One Size online at CVS.com (http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/catalog/shop_product_detail.jsp?filterBy=&skuId=404205&productId=404205&navAction=jump&navCount=3) from CVS to shower with. MUCH better than damn plastic wrap!!
For the groshong, you are knocked out for the procedure. The PICC youre not. The only thing I felt was a small prick when the nurse numbed the area. Nothing to the picc at all.

I have a PICC. I think the PICC would be easier to cover to shower than a port in the chest. IMHO.
Also, the last time I had my T-Cell count done(before PICC) it was 34. I just had it redone last week after 1 month on IV, I am hoping it went up.
Hang in there!

Thanks for the sleeve tip Jameo! :yay:
I see Dr. Pomilla and think that he is a great doctor. (FYI - When Cafferty has a patient who doesn't respond to the normal course of treatment, he refers them to Pomilla.)
I had a PICC line inserted yesterday. My arm is a little sore. I feel chest pressure and a hard ache near my shoulder blade. The visiting nurse comes today.
When discussing which type of device to use and the placement of it (chest versus arm), Dr. Pomilla cautioned that there is a higher chance of experiencing a collapsed lung when the device is placed in your chest.

Arm, chest, lung hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
No that is the possibility with the Groshong, but I was told the Groshong was more comfortable and less chances of infection.

I understand that it's the toxins washing out of the system. The toxins are the dead things invading our bodies that the treatment is killing. I get that... I need to plan to be sick [if that makes sense]. If everyone else was out of work for a day... that's cool... but if it's a week... I need to plan that.... know what I mean?

Document Title: Re: IV Claforan vs. Rocephin?
Just curious, why does it have to be either Rocephin or Claforan. If you have already tried Rocephin, and at 4 grams,hmmm...that does not sound like enough time to be on IV at all. 6 weeks, thats it! How about 6 months would be more like it. I took Claforan, 12 grams a day, split 4 grams each 3x a day, made my stomach hurt, but works really well. I was herxing so bad back then its all a blur. I hightly recommend IV Zithromax, its done miracles for me. Its much less pain on the belly, and its easy, one hour per day, and it stays inyour blood for a few days after each dose of IV, so you dont have to infuse on weekends.
I have been on IV Zithro for 4 months and it has made huge improvements. There are other IV's as well, IV Vancomycin, Doxycycline, Primaxin, etc. Also IM Bicillin is very strong stuff.
You have to watch your gall bladder on Rocephin, and your liver and stomach on Claforan, Zithro=no problems!

I get blood work done once a week. They check liver, gall bladder, H&H and I think a few other things. Red or white blood cell count too maybe.

I understand that it's the toxins washing out of the system. The toxins are the dead things invading our bodies that the treatment is killing.
I've had lyme twice - the first time was a doozy and went undiagnosed for years... after my treatment (which lasted over a year) I am of the opinion that the antibiotics kill off the toxins - but you need to flush them out. So you have all of these dead toxins in your body (which still make you sick) - how do you get them out?? The antibiotics do nothing for that... yes, they kill the toxins... and some of them will come out naturally, but a lot of them bind to other things in your body and STAY there until you flush them out.
Just my opinion, and I had to end up seeing another doctor AFTER I had the IV antibiotics for over 8 months... he was sort of 'alternative' but his plan worked and I felt like a champ after 3 months of his regimen that supposedly flushed the dead toxins out (NOT antibiotics... it was some cholesterol medicine that binded to the toxins and then you eliminated them, KWIM?) Here is his website if anyone is interested:
VCS Test Center by ChronicNeurotoxins, Inc. Lyme Disease Information (http://www.chronicneurotoxins.com/learnmore/lymedisease.cfm)
(*note* I am not affliated with the guy - actually, I didn't care for him at all as a person :lmao: But his regimen did work.... and my insurance covered my visits to him, so it's not like he is some stand alone money making guy. The vision test does cost a little bit of money, but it was absolutely invaluable to me when I was still having problems with lyme after almost a year of treatment...)
The antibiotics just didn't do it for me - sure I felt better, but I still had problems from the other dead toxins that were in my body.
You are taking the right course first - you have to do the antibiotics... but that isn't always the end of the road.

When I told my boss what was going on with me, he suggested that I file a FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) claim to protect my job in case I need to take unplanned leave from work. I signed up for Intermittant Leave which provides coverage for up to a year and allows me to take days when I need them.
I have CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield coverage and also requested to have a Case Manager assigned. They have been helpful so far and try to coordinate their calls after my appointments in case I have lingering questions.

My husband took a business trip recently while on the rocephin. He contacted Synergy and they gave him the kind that didn't need to be refridgerated. He just put it into his checked bag. He was gone for 10 days and they even arranged to ship his next order to the hotel he was staying at.

Drove myself to the ER last night.
I think I may be having an allergic reaction to the Rocephin IV antibiotic:
skin felt prickly all over (almost like the beginning of hives), continuous, uncontrollable hacking cough, sharp chest pain (swelling too fast?), stomach pain, back pain, pain roaming all over my body.
Unhooked the IV and got intense headache, severe sinus congestion and nonstop nose drainage.
Most of the symptoms started easing off a few minutes after I unhooked the IV, but breathing/coughing continued, as did stomach pain.
The attending physician at SMH pretty much told me that I was making stuff up in my head, that I had a cold. At least it told me up front that the doc was a POS.
I complained to the nurse and they decided to give me steroids (just in case I was having an allergic reaction) and take chest x-rays. Chest xrays seemed to indicate pneumonia, so that is what they treated me for.
I called my doc this morning and he thinks that I had a severe allergic reaction. Resting today. Will know more tomorrow, asked for someone to observe me while I administer tomorrow's dose of the antibiotic.
They told me to have benadryl on hand, just in case, to counter an allergic reaction of any type that may cause those symptoms.
The next time I feel like that, if the chest pain isn't too bad, I am heading up the road instead.
