Been looking for an easy way to convert the 35mm slides I shot back in the '70-'80s. Found some online for around $100 that convert the slide to a 5m .jpg and I thought "Why can't I do that with my camera?"

Went to the workshop and cobbled up a holder and a light diffuser. Just some scrap lumber and 6 nails :lol: I started off with a sheet of paper as the diffuser, but it was surprisingly uneven as you can see in the sky of the first pic of my Dad fishing. I got a scrap piece of Vellum from the drafting Dept and have gotten much better results.

Most scanners require an accessory slide/film carrier and if you've got a low end printer/scanner odds are there's not one available for it.

The big pro for mine is it cost a couple of pieces of scrap wood and 6 nails.

I borrowed a slide convertor from a friend last year, I had mixed results. Was not impressed with the convertor.

That's what I liked about the one I linked, it stores them to a the included 1g SD card. Don't need to be tied to your computer while you're copying, doesn't need any compatible software.

I have a jig that attaches to my camera lens and I use a frame rig to insert my slides,
Using my Nikon, I can crop, do adjustments, etc and using my old light box, photograph (copy) the slide...after I am all done, I upload images into the PC and tataa...all done.
Lightbox gives nice, cool even lighting...no need to use a scanner or other piece of "fancy" equipment to make a copy of my slides...

I picked it up last night. I liked it because you don't need a PC to scan, it scans directly to the SD card and has the preview screen. You can also rotate the picture before scanning. Then in Target, they had a 4GB microSD card with standard SD adapter and a USB adapter for $9.99. I'll try it out tonight. I have lots of slides to convert. I had been looking at a high-end scanner FadFusion.com: Pacific Image Electronics PS3650 PowerSlide 3650 (http://www.fadfusion.com/selection.php?product_item_number=10240400021) but just couldn't justify the cost. Would have been nice to just load the tray and walk away.

Not bad... not as sharp as I had hoped for 5 MP resolution. Picture is kinda soft. This is from a slide.

Eh... don't waste your money on this one. There is FAR more usable information in the slide than the scanner recovers. It may claim 5MP, but the actual resolution doesn't come near that. It also has a problem with high contrast, like in B/W negatives. Washes out terribly.

I saved them in my computer and then onto a disc. I have no further use for it. I paid $99 for it and would let it go cheap (@$20) if anyone wants it. PM me or something but I no longer need it.

Yes, and they look just like a good digital picture because the scanner digitizes them.
You load the software disc into the computer then put the slides or negatives in the scanner and it displays them on your monitor. There you can make any changes just like you would in a photo shop program.
If you want, you can use it first to see if you like it.
