Yeah, it WAS a funny line, but actually their math sucks; because the Yank-me's haven't been to the show since they lost to the Diamondback's twin pitchers Randy Schilling in '01. So they need to recalculate the time and money spent. You remember the bit about Gonzo's chewed gum on E-bay?

And hopefully, Charlie Manuel knows what it's gonna take to slow down A-fraud. He needs to be drilled one time in the ribcage. That will stop him from diving for those outside pitches, because I know deep down in his heart, he's still afraid of being hurt. This year it's almost like the league has said "You can't pitch him inside because he's scared of those pitches." Screw the Bonds' style treatment of intentionally walking him. Go the Don Drysdale route: "Why throw four pitches to put him on first when all it takes is one?"

The Dodgers lineup is not even in the same zip code as the Yankees. I would start Blanton for one reason. Beside Pedro, he is the ONLY starting pitcher
with enough balls to drill A-Rod and then stand there and DARE him to come out to the mound. The Twinkies didn't do it. Neither did the Halo's. Instead they gave him the Bonds treatment. I will be willing to bet one lung and one testicle that the "clutch" hitting will stop as soon as he knows that his ribs will be sore every time he tries to dive for that outside pitch. And Blanton is JUST the guy to do it.

It is part of the game that alot of nonplayers and coaches dont understand. I told a Philly fan here at work that if I was coaching the Yanks that I would have C.C. throw a 95 mph fastball into the ribs of Howard.
A.J. needs to hit someone early tonight. It will set uo that nasty curvball he has.

It's all about the old adage that the hitter can have the inside half of the plate but the outside half belongs to the pitcher. It seems that was forgotten in the ALDS and ALCS. Jeter gets hit all the time because he dives out for the outside half. Have you ever seen him do anything but walk to first?

I do not advocate this at the 13 and 14 yearold leavel but,This year in L.L. the Hughesville coach had his pitcher hit my best player. I know this for a fact because I was coaching 3rd and heard him tell his players before he went out to the mound to tell his pitcher. I went out to player after he got hit and told him to keep his mouth shut and just go to firstbase and that we will get him back. I think you remember my best player and how hard he throws, so when there best hitter came to the plate the next inning he got a fastball in the ribs, and all of their players, coaches and fans had a fit except their head coach because he expected it.

Hey Kate, what color is the sky in your universe? It is done by REAL players and REAL coaches every day of the season. It is not thuggery. It is used to teach lessons. Don't dive out over the plate. Don't stand there and watch the flight of the ball. And if you hit one of mine, I'll hit one of yours. As long as you keep the ball above the knees and below the neck, there are no issues. It's the way the players police each other without interference from the umpires. Why do you think the umps wait until the 2nd one gets hit to issue the warning???? And this IS from a REAL coach sweetie.

From THE man, Bob Gibson;
"I heard he (John Milner) could hit." (Reply to Hank Aaron when asked why he hit Milner)
"When I knocked a guy down, there was no second part to the story."
Of pitchers;
"Barry Bonds? I'll tell you what, if he hit a home run off (Bob) Gibson or (Don) Drysdale and stood and admired it, they'd knock that earring out of his ear the next time up." - National League Umpire Doug Harvey
"He (Bob Gibson) couldn't pitch today because they wouldn't let him. The way he'd throw inside, he'd be kicked out of the game in the first inning, along with guys like Don Drysdale and Sandy Koufax." - Red Schoendienst
"When it came to winning 'the big game,' there were few pitchers who compared with Bob Gibson. As outstanding as the St. Louis Cardinals' scowling right-hander was at other times, he was at his most ferocious when the spotlight shined brightest." - Larry Schwartz (ESPN.com)
Gird your loins. Grab your weapon. And don't dig in too deep.

Okay, as far as the game goes, Charlie was a not as crazy as I thought. Pedro actually did much better than I thought he would in that venue. Against another pitcher he just might have pitched well enough to win that game. Giving up just 3 runs at the opponent's home field should be good enough to win more than you lose. Unfortunately, his offense ran into a buzz saw with a curveball.

Katie, I'd tell you to go lick your sweetie's balls, but he's already proven he doesn't have any. And when YOU have the balls to step out from behind your MPD, I'm still right here #####.And I guess you would know more about someone's balls being the expert you are. Yeah, I've heard that you often have a set dangling from your chin.
Step out from behind my MPD? :lol: Ooooh, you're so scary. :killingme
The fact remains that intentionally throwing at a batter is bush league and if it was part of the game there would be no need for a rule against it.

The 9th inning last night was a heartbreaker. :sad:
That 2 base steal by Damon was pretty awesome though.

Ya gotta admit, this is just a tad funny. :lol:
Johnny Damon's at bat, a nine pitch masterpiece, definitely set the stage in that 9th inning. Then he hits a single!
He then takes off on a steal, notices there's NOONE covering third base, and takes the double steal! :yahoo:
Texiera gets hit, and then A-Rod comes through, as well as Posada! Way to go, Yankees!
It's not over yet, however - the Yankees are in the drivers seat now! :diva:

Larry detailed in a much better manner than I could why it is, and always will be, part of the game. You gonna call him an idiot too? And don't obfuscate either. You know damn well I wasn't being physically threatening. I just want you to be brave enough to let everyone know who you are. But I guess that's too much to ask from a wimp like you. Isn't it KayKay?
:pete: A-Rod struck out twice and popped out once vs. Pedro.
Burnette had a helluva a game last night, but not as good as Lee did the night before.
And Posada is in SERIOUS need of a nose job. :toucanbeak:
He doesn't care silly woman. His bank balance wont even print on an ATM reciept because the slip is too narrow for all the digits AND Kate Hudson no doubt made it all better right after the game in the limo ride back to the hotel.

Hey Forsberg, wanna get your thoughts on how Manuel has handled(or failed to) the pitching staff. I'm really beginning to believe they won it last year in spite of him. He and Mike Hargrove screwed up the 1st WS he was in. And I hold him responsible for ruining Jaret Wright's career. Sending a kid that young out there to throw 120-140 pitches at the end of his 1st full season is unconscionable. He had some success later with the Braves, but he was never really the same.

Look at what the Yanks are doing throwing only 3 starters on 3 days rest. Honestly, I was hoping Lee would start game 4. I have little confidence in Blanton or Hamels. If we extend it to a 7th Hamels will start. :(

Charlie has done this all year and I guess he is taking the if it ain't broke don't fix it approach. I give him a little credit he didn't put Lidge in last night. Lee needed to get pulled in last nights game he had given up 4 runs in the 8th inning. If the Yanks end up losing the series the Yanks manager is going to take alot of heat for starting his guys on 3 days rest.

27 titles in, what, 104 contests in the modern era? That's better than 1 in 4. Granted, it's been 9 years since the last one but, can a sport even said to be meaningful given the profound disparity in not only results but, more importantly, in resources?
It's div one vs. what, div II? III?

Why is there always this almighty push for parity? First we level the playing field so EVERYBODY has a chance. Next we stop keeping score so the lesser team doesn't feel bad about themselves. If you can't afford it, don't get involved.

Well, Dear Yankee Fan, :lol: I am not pushing more parity nor much care. I long ago gave up on baseball. It was just a comment, an observation. Is there a level playing field in baseball? I don't think so.
So, does that matter?

First, I will NEVER be a Yankee fan. Look to my av and know that he was my hero growing up. If the Yankees were to fall off the face of the earth I would die a happy man. I just hate what Pete Rozelle and his beloved parity did to football. I also hate that teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Angels etc... who are trying to improve their teams have to pay a fine in order to improve. That fine is then split up amongst the "smaller market" teams. Now if those smaller market teams were forced to spend the money on developing their respective teams it would be such a bitter pill to swallow. But they get to spend the money how they see fit. And then they hold their respective cities hostage saying all will be better if we can get people to come to the new park you're going to build us so we don't move to Oklahoma City.

yes sir. I guess I am. Nothing infuriates me more than anowner who really doesn't give a #### about anything more than the bottom line in his ledger. A perfect situation is Pittsburgh. You can NOT tell me that the Pirates wouldn't have more asses in the seats if they were winners. Yet that SOB cries poor-mouth because the fans won't support us. And I can't build a winner because we're a small market. Bull####. Really?? Isn't this the same market that has the ummmmmmmmm Penguins? And what's the name of their football team? Oh Yeah!!! The Steelers. They've won a couple, haven't they? So if you can't afford it, sell it to someone who can and get the #### out of the way!
I want to rethink my reply in one aspect. That is the tiger/sheep analogy. I don't think that is a valid analogy. Sheep indicates an ignorance of the process through an innocence factor that just doesn't exist here. I think the more proper analogy would be tiger/jackal. Because these owners know the process they just want somebody to make the kill and then they come along and feed on the carcass.

Baseball salaries 2009;
Yankees; $200,000,000
Phillies; $120,000,000
Marlins; $36,000,000
There simply is not the room for the kind of disparity in the NFL that is necessary to 'buy' a title. If you're in baseball, you look at what the winners do; spend WAY more than everyone else.
In the NFL, look at what the winners do. Better teams by knowing football better. Same money.
Granted, Snyder is using the Yankee model; let the cream rise to the top. league wide, then try to buy it. It just doesn't work.

This is a resource argument. Other sports leagues have made it possible for Pittsburgh to compete with NY in terms of resources. Baseball has not.
2009 Yankee payroll; $200,000,000
Pirates; $48,000,000
2008 Giants; $115,000,000
2008 Steelers; $128,000,000
The Yankees earn something like $200,000,000 a year in local radio alone.
