Where's Socki going to be shopping? All three of my digitals have been Nikon Cool Pix cameras and I loved them all. Easy to use and take nice pics. Should be able to get one in that range. Good luck!

I've had one and want something with better quality. I've gone thru a dozen $100 cameras. I see the pics in here and go nuts. I am finally ready to move up in the world.

Oh and Socki's going shopping in St. Mary's. I'll probably be going down the strip between Target, Wal*Fart, and Best Buy.

:yay: My newest Nikon was $400 and takes great pics. Just as an example, here is the listing of Nikons from Best Buy sorted by lowest to highest in price. I've also heard lots of folks who like the Canons too.

We bought a cheap ($100 - $120) Fuji 10 MP point and shoot over the summer @ Target. Takes Great pictures. Shutter speed not bad, not great, but not as bad as the Canon we had that died.

My point and shoot camera is Canon Powershot SD1200 IS, I think that is the model. Nice little camera, easy to use (Had to get something easy to use so my dad could use it on his hunting trips) I think I paid like $200 for it

I have a Fuji FinePix S1000fd available at BJ's for $180 (http://shop.bjs.com/Fuji-FinePix-S1000fd-10-0MP-2-7--34--12x-Optical-Zoom-Digital-Camera--Black-Electronics_stcVVproductId47428031VVcatId428386VVviewprod.htm)
Takes excellent pictures, nice zoom (12x) and the panorama feature is easy to use.
Uses "AA" batteries, so you can get an inexpensive charger and NiMH batteries.

Whatever you get, make sure it has a viewfinder and use it to compose your pictures

That's exactly what I'm looking for. I see it at Best Buy for $160 but I'm not sure if that's just the online price.

Be aware the Sony is proprietary and you have to buy/use only their memory cards and their rechargable battery. I purposely excluded Sony from my list of choices because I wanted a digital camera that used AA batteries since I could get AA batteries from wherever I happened to be should my batteries die rather than have to wait to recharge at home or carry around a Sony spare. Just making you aware...:buddies:

You can get a SD card holder at Walmart that allows you to plug it into the USB port on your computer, no need to load any additional software.

My last was a Sony and I HATED that. It always seemed that whenever I needed the camera the most it was down to the end of the battery charge. Thanks for the reminder. I need to remember that when I look at cameras tonight.

Suggestion... go to Amazon.com and start reading the customer reviews on various models you might be interested in... it will help to point out things you might not have considered or major problems you won't be aware of until after you've purchased. You can basically low-brow the comments on "picture clarity" as clarity is in the eye of the beholder and sometimes the beholder is expecting a $500 picture from a $200 camera.

I'd love to see actual pics taken from everyone's cameras. That might help. I'm camera dumb.

Sockgirl, Just looking at a picture that someone takes is not a way to tell what camera to get. Two people using the same camera could get drastically different pictures. The camera is a tool, one person could get art from a $5 disposable camera, and another could get crap out of a $5000 DSLR with a $3000 lens on it. The trick is to know the limitations of the camera you get and to learn and understand how to use it.

It also may help reading through this post as well.

I would suggest a Canon SX120 if you don't mind something a little bigger or a Canon SD1200 if you want small and thin. Either one will take great pictures.

Newegg.com - Canon PowerShot SX120 IS Black 10.0 MP 3.0" 230K LCD 10X Optical Zoom Digital Camera (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16830120379)

This one is available in many colors Newegg.com - Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS Green 10.0 MP 2.5" 230K LCD 3X Optical Zoom Digital Camera (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16830120333)

I had very little time to shop. After looking at 50 or so cameras it seemed like the best deal. It has all the modes I need. The only thing that I do not like is that it has the iob battery but kust about every camera in the store had them.

Li-ion battery. Socki, congrats on your new camera! Your best bet is to buy a second battery and keep one charged at all times. I've found this to work well. BTW, I have the Nikon P60 and my battery stays charged a long time. I still keep a second fully charged in reserve, just in case!! :yay:

No problem! Believe me, it will be a life saver!! Nothing sucks worse than being at a party or somewhere with a great photo op and having the "battery low" indicator flash on, or having the camera shut off. Can't wait to see some of your pics posted!

Sony's DSC-W290

It's on sale right now, it received nice ratings on CNET.com. I picked one up as a Christmas gift in the Dark Blue, but they have other colors. Never was much for Sony digital cameras but it was hard to argue with CNET's review.

I've had a Nikon D80 for almost 2 years. It has a Li-Ion battery and I've recharged it once since I've owned the camera.. maybe twice but i can't be 100% sure..

It also charges QUICK considering how long it lasts.. You'll be happy with it..

I even got a Makita Hammer Drill with Li-Ion battery, battery will last over 2 hours, and recharge in less than 10 - 15 minutes..

Li Ion is the way to go.
