Probably the snippets of video like Greg "Bug eye" Biffle surrounded by smoke on a turntable, arms crossed, he rotates to face the camera with his best scowl, graphics on the screen so fast it causes seizures. Smoke machines and showers of sparks as they come out for driver introductions, in depth questions like "what would winning this race mean to you?" with the canned answer "Oh it would be the greatest! I have always loved racing here at XXXXXXXX, it is a special place to me." instead of the real answer "Well to tell you the truth it would mean about $295,000 dollars. Other than that it means jackshiat, no different than last week. It is also the endless parade of "Official sponsor" bull. "When I am in my race car sitting in my molded seat, temps inside reaching 130 degrees, balls sweating for 3 and a half hours it causes rectal pain which is why I use Anusol........the official hemorrhoid cream of NASCAR." Or even better the Enzyte car, better performance on the track and in the rack, the extra size is fun too!"

yes I saw that. Looked weird watching them thru the corners with gaps between the cars.
It's a catch 22, do away with the plates and risk death in 240 mph crashes or keep it the way it is and risk death in 195 mph crashes wiping out the field.
I think with the safety features of these cars, the plate can go. At least try it for a year.

I think you need the plates to control the speed but after that just let the guys(girls too) race. Let them run whatever gear, trans, deck height whatever. The desire to be the best has always been what drives racing, they use the BS about making it affordable for single car teams and small operations to compete but now they have created a 190 mph log jam with regulations. Limit the horse power and let the rest be free game to whomever can make it happen and everyone else will catch up, like it was for 45 years or so.

The speed has become the issue, slow the cars down by taking away downforce. The plates just keep the horsepower and acceleration down resulting in a bunch and the inevitable "Big One" at the end. Another way to slow the cars is to make them conform 100% to the template of the production car. I am all for the safety improvements but if Ford/Chevy/Dodge needs to make their car more aero slick to win, then let them design it, not NASCAR. The manufacturers cup is a joke, they are all the same! I have so many other issues.................

The tracks are the problem. They need to tear down the banking.
I don't know how many more people need to die at these two tracks for NASCAR to get the picture.:smack:

How can anybody think it's a good idea for the National STOCK CAR racing association to not race stock cars?
lose the V8s.
smaller engines will mean slower speeds (for a while).
require them to run on pump gas.
require manufactures to build at least 500 units to qualify as stock
It used to be "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday"
That went away when the race cars bore no resemblance to what was in the showroom (except for a name sticker)

More banking = more speed.
If they flatten the track out in the corners, the drivers would have to slow down to enter the turns instead of running wide open throttle the entire race. That eliminates the need for a restrictor plate. Straightaway speeds can still be cut using a tapered spacer (which is used in the Truck Series and Nationwide Series) which doesn't slow the throttle response as much as a restrictor plate.

I'm not disagreeing about the stock car stuff, just the engine and fuel comments. These changes won't solve anything unless NASCAR implements more rules on top of them. 4 cylinders and pump gas can make monster hp built the right way. It isn't about the cylinders or gas, it is about airflow.
As far as racing a stock car, I prefer watching a v8 hotrod. If it isn't a "stock car" anymore, so be it I still enjoy the sport.
Yesterdays race was an abomination, NASCAR should be ashamed of themselves and give all the race goers an extra ticket to the venue of their choice. As I see it they can either limit horse power or limit down force to decrease speeds, as I do not see a way to keep the cars on the track at those speeds. They implemented roof flaps and a bunch of other stuff that is not working at those speeds.

Give them all 250 HP and turn 'em loose. So what if one team wins more than the others, sooner or later everyone will catch up who can catch up and if they can't, they can come over my house and what it on tv with me and bich because I'm flipping between the game and the race. TOO MANY PERFORMANCE RULES.

So ... keep V8s but choke them, stop development of technology that could filter down and improve your daily driver, don't race anything close to what a consumer can buy but go ahead and call it "stock car" racing.

Would it make you feel better to call it V8 stock decal racing? There are already sanctioning bodies that have commuter car classes, I don't think we need another one. I feel like the technology in daily drivers has already surpassed nascar's rule book. Look at power levels compared to fuel efficiency. I don't care what you call it, but I don't know why people can't realize that there is nothing stock about a stock car and there hasn't been for a long time. I watch nascar because I like the competition and the personalities. Nascar picked a set of rules and that's what the competitors have to abide by. Obviously they are doing something right as the sport has grown leaps and bounds.

That ain't too far off what Bill Elliott did (212) which started the whole restrictor plate thing to start with.

What competition? They raced single file in their cookie cutter cars for over half the race and the rest they were so bunched up that the big one happened 2X. I want to see racing not follow the leader. Tony S and Ryan N both said it was boring and an embarrassment for NASCAR.

Is it because the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing has the words "Stock Car" in the name?

I was talking about the competition in general. I have never seen as many cars on the lead lap as is customary today. I also said in an earlier post that Sunday's race was an abomination, we are in agreement of that. In response to the comment about cookie cutter cars, where does the innovation stop? If they don't put limits in the rules couldn't that give an unfair advantage? Isn't it supposed to be about the driver and the team competing on the same level as everyone else? -Honest question.
No.
Why do you consider NASCAR "stock car" racing?
Is it because the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing has the words "Stock Car" in the name?
Because that is what a stock car is. Like I said before, it has been 50 years since cars in stock form have been raced. A stock car is a purpose built race car generally built to race on asphalt ovals and road courses.
Another way to look at it is that a stock car is not built to the point of an F1 or indy car.
