THinking I could have them help me register to vote as a democrat in VA tomorrow, then go vote for McConnell..

I'm am sure the D.C. office (http://acorn.org/index.php?id=13337) will gladly take care of this for you. They'll even make sure to cast your vote so you don't need to bother with those nasty lines.
