From A few different people now that Fred's Gun Shop in Waldorf is logging ID's for any ammo. purchases. Can anyone else confirm this? If this is the case I'd highly suggest taking your business elsewhere.

Does it matter that there's a record of ammo purchases? Unless you're hiding it for some reason, I don't see why it would be an issue.

Why is it anyone's business? How about your beer purchases? Where you eat?

This is constitutional turf here.

I don't know if it's "Constitutional turf" but on the other side of the same coin; isn't the right to privacy in that Contitutional attachment; what's it called? Oh yeah, The Bill of Rights. I don't remember off the top of my head, but if that right ISN'T in there somewhere, IT SHOULD BE. JMO

Collecting information like that for deviant liberal purposes doesn't make any sense. It may be for inventory control or whatnot as well... Tracking ammo purchases doesn't do anything except mark how much of what type goes out on what days more often....
Now,
If they ask for your ID and get your social... thats in violation,

Both people I talked to said that they asked and were told by the clerk that it was a voluntary program and that the information is sent to the MSP, if you can't see why this is a problem then I'm sorry for your ignorance. (Not aimed at you Fishinguy, just in general)

ETA- and both people wisely walked away.

I remember a couple years ago I bought a few boxes of 45 to go shooting one weekend from a walmart and they asked for my ID. I figured I was just getting carded for the purchase but then they started writing stuff in a book. I asked why and they guy just said I dont know, I'm supposed to do this. I told him forget it and keep the ammo.

This is just downright frightening. When they do things like this, and show up in the middle of thenight for gun inspections (like your linked story), well it's not that far away from the time when they start confiscating them on a mass scale.

I went into a gun shop last night in WV. Way Way different than in MD. I could have walked out with a handgun or an AK 47.... they even had a 50 BMG there

Knowing which individual buys what ammo is completely useless for inventory control. If you are thinking of demographic statistics, they still don't need to know names.

Thing is, the police are just doing their jobs. This is coming from the people higher up who tell them what to do...such as the politicians in charge.

LOL. I dunno. They aren't the only place that does it. I think Staples does too.

I could give them a fake number, how would they every know. But this sheep mentality comes over me and I find myself giving it out, lol.

You don't have to give them any number. When I make a purchase and my phone number is requested, I tell them "no thanks". They look at me funny, and finish my transaction.

I just wonder why they bother to ask at all. Some places ask for the zip, which I understand is for getting the demographics... but phone?

I don't give that out either in those situations.

This is however a little different, doubt the police are gonna kick your door down for buying shoes that don't fit your feet.
