Same reason they're not calling the John Allen Muhammad, Luke Helder or Charles Whitman terrorists. They aren't terrorists. Psychos, murderers and horrible pieces of scum? Yes. Terrorist? No.
The only difference between Muhammad, Helder, Whitman and this whack-job is the Middle Eastern heritage.
I don't think that's enough to qualify.

I don't know. Probably have to belong to a group or have ties. Otherwise you're just a wacko acting alone.
I thought they did claim that John Allen Muhammad was considered to have been a terrorist, or at least one that reigned terror, or something like that.
Im just glad that Virginia was the state to get to hold onto him. They just dont have an issue with doing the right thing.
and if not Virginia, there were a few other states that would have been happy to do away with him too.

I don't know the technicalities of what qualifies an individual as a 'terrorist', but typically Muhammad is not labeled in the media (neither right-wing nor left-wing media) as a terrorist, and most people talking about him don't refer to him as a terrorist.
I am, however, pretty certain that having Middle Eastern blood is not one of the qualifications.
Hasan is in the same freak-league as Muhammad, and IMO should be treated as such.
noun 1.a person, usually a member of a group, who uses or advocates terrorism.2.a person who terrorizes or frightens others.3.(formerly) a member of a political group in Russia aiming at the demoralization of the government by terror.4.an agent or partisan of the revolutionary tribunal during the Reign of Terror in France.
I think #2 is the reference I heard used to describe him.
It does not however indicate a relationship to any group or nationality or religion, so I don't think I am thinking terrorist in the same terms as others might think I am thinking.

Muhammad was convicted of terrorist acts, doesn't that make him a terrorist?

I have heard him referred to that by the news channels. Mostly he is referred to as the Washington area sniper, which I think is what most people know him by.

THANK YOU!!
FINALLY!! Joe Lieberman on Fox News with Chris Wallace called this guy a terrorist. He said if the facts are true this was a terrorist attack an one of the worst. We should be mouring this attack just as if it happened in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Thanks JOE :buddies:

Muslim is a group!
CNN had their expert on last night (who just happened to be a Muslim himself) and he explained that he must be a mental case, suffered a break with reality, because "NOBODY EVER KILLS FOR THEIR RELIGION!!" And the anchor, nor the other person giving his point of view called him on it.
We are getting the news they want us to get. We use to be able to depend on journalism to tell us the truth while the government was attempting to hide it or cover it up. (remember Watergate), now it seems journalism and journalists are part of the problem.
Where do we turn now to find and hear the truth?

Talk radio is the last frontier. This is why they're trying to silence Savage, Limbaugh, LeVin, etc.
I get Savage on 570 AM radio from 6-9pm weeknights. It's tough in the winter because of the "power down" that the AM stations do. Savage is usually hearable from 6-7:30 though. You can also check their websites for additional info. Savage is at: MichaelSavage.com - Home of The Savage Nation (http://www.michaelsavage.com)
LeVin is on the same time on WMAL 630 AM

Probably because they dropped the ball.....again.
U.S. intelligence agencies were aware months ago that Army Major Nidal Hasan was attempting to make contact with people associated with al Qaeda, two American officials briefed on classified material in the case told ABC News. I'm sure that there was some ball dropping... but I'm sure that someone doesn't want to admit he is a terrorist too...
That said, you should know that intel agencies might want to keep him active to catch bigger fish. Unfortunately, sometimes targets act abruptly.
And FYI, U.S. Intel agencies cannot target U.S. citizens w/o FISA warrants according to Executive Order 12333... So, even though they might have "known" about it - they cannot do anything to/against him (because he is a U.S. Citizen). The only thing they CAN do is a FBI referral.
Further, the PATRIOT ACT, which MANY U.S. citizens are against is the thing that could/hould fix this sort of thing.
Darned if you do, darned if you don't.

If it's true that he attempted to contac Al Queada.. and wanted to work to support them he's no longer a terrorist, or a "lone gunman" but he's a traitor, and should be treated as such.
(We can't execute a "terrorist" or a Prisoner of War)

But in order to get to that execution, you have to do it legally - especially because he is a U.S. citizen.
I say investigate, try, hang publicly (if found guilty).

What happened to McViegh?
Pre-9/11... Terrorist wasn't quite a dinner table term just yet. Acted on April 19, 1995... Executed June 11, 2001.
And trying Hasan as a murderer, might get him more of a sentence and the U.S. less of a controversy.
However, he could be be brought up on sabatoge or treason... depending on how you look at it.
It's all semantics really.
United States Code at 18 U.S.C. § 2381 states, "whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States." A requirement of testimony by at least two witnesses was inherited from the British Treason Act 1695 (Since 1945, however, this has been abolished in British law and treason cases are now subject to the same rules of evidence and procedure as a murder trial, but the US requirement still stands barring an amendment).

What happened to McViegh?
He was convicted of Murder, not terrorist acts, nor was he an enemy combatant.
They said he was a Domestic Terrorist, but was actually (I don't think) convicted of anything concerning terrorism.. he was convicted of murder.
McVeigh was charged in Federal court with 8 counts of murder of federal officers, conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction, use of a weapon of mass destruction, and destroying government property via explosive
The chances are good, according to the talking heads, that this fine doctor won't be convicted of murder because he had a mental break, and it was "Virtual" PTSD.
We should all feel bad for him, and comfort and support him..
