Moored in a storm

Hurricane Isabel 2003 after the worst of the wind. My boat, town creek. There's a dock there somewhere. We came back later and the water was down to where you could see the pilings. Went 0ut and checked the lines. Only one little extra one I had put on the day before had snapped.

You paid attention. Many didn't and then couldn't figure out what happened. Like my neighbor who put a handful of gravel on her wicker chairs and couldn't find them the next day. Or the guys who refused to move their cars out of the flood zone because "We've been here 3 years and it's never flooded" even though there's a Flood Zone Area sign right in front of their houses. Or the ones who cancelled their flood insurance because "it's too expensive" (average amount of damage-$150K).

Awesome pic. I have a very similar one of ours on the other side of the creek that same day, if I can find it I'll post it. We also snapped one of our extra lines, but I went redundant on just about every cleat so losing one line left 7 more to hold us.

I also used the advantage of having one empty slip next to our spot. That allowed me to position the boat in the middle, away from the docks, with enough line to allow for the 6 foot vertical ride the boat was going to take overnight.
