Sunken Boat

So, I'm looking at some waterfront property that I might want to buy and there is a rotting pier with a large (35'-40') sunken boat moored to it. Does anyone know what might be involved in getting that thing out of there? Hazmat? Environmental? Cost? I know usually the owner of the boat is the responsible party, but if they were going to take care of it, they would have done so before listing the property.

That would be you if you buy the property

How rotting is rotting concerning the pier? If the piles are ok get that thing repaired, do not tear it out because you're looking at over $20k just to replace and that does not include all the paperwork and fees you have to submit.

1) Get a bunch of buddies together, pull that mess out of hte water and pile it up in the yard and let it dry out.

2) Get a keg invite the same buddies over, fire up the grill or cook up some butt and torch that sucker.

If the pier is rotting and you will be getting repaired anyway, chances are the marine construction contractor can move it, either to land or sneak out to the channel lol. We had one years ago and the contractor broke it up and moved it basically for a free lunch. If it's been rotting there, the environmental damage is most likely done and no sense calling MDE or anyone. A sunken boat leaking fuel is a de minimus item I was told and not worth the clean-up efforts.

There ain't enough beer in a keg to pull a 40' out of the water and then burn what is most likely the fiberglass remains

1. You cannot burn a fiberglass boat legally. (I've had to dispose of many boats)

2. The rules have recently changed on pier renovations; you cannot assume that you can simply replace an existing pier in its entirety. (I have a 270' pier..that can no longerbe replaced should a storm take it.)

Better get some very current professional advice on both counts.
