Hi everyone

Thanks for any info!

Feral cats are not capable of becoming pets. Do the right thing and make sure they do not live. Even if you spay or neuter they are still killing machines, killing wildlife 24/7/365

I do not think barn cats are really feral cats. The feral cats on the base look like small tigers and are just as dangerous

Are you kidding me! If it can't become an inside pet, KILL it? These are barn cats and get fed catfood twice a day everyday! I don't know what world you live in but feral cats CAN become inside pets! My mother has a feral cat that was trapped on Pax River Base as a kitten years ago and is quite happy to live with her and her two dogs. My sister also has 3 previously feral cats in her home with her other 2 indoor cats and 2 dogs.

I guess I need to be more descriptive. We recently moved our horses to a new farm last week that has about 20 - 30 barn cats with several kittens. We would like to trap said cats, have them fixed, and release them back to the barns. We are not looking to place them in homes, (unless some kittens can be placed) we would like to get the population fixed so they don't keep inbreeding and reproducing! Is there a program to allow us to do this on a budget and not have to pay full price?

as akitten you can domesticate a tiger.

the cats you speak of probally still have domestic cat coloring? and certainly you can break a wild cat just like you break a wild horse or an unruly domestic horse it just takes more effort.

and your point is? not trying to be offensive or combative! we just want to stop the barn cats from breeding on the farm! nothing more than that! It's a HUGE population that if we can get a discount or something to get them all fixed would be great!

If you have a vet for horses, shouldn't that vet advise on where to go for help?

He!!, I'd think the horse community would have solutions to this already.
I'm just sayin'

Cats can go from domesticated to feral in very little time.. The cute little tabby someone cuddles with in their bed can be feral in just a matter of weeks if n ot days. They would still look the same, but if you tried to snuggle them I think you'd find a major difference. When Pease AFB closed the base was overrun with feral cats.. a lot of owners when they moved, just opened their doors and let their cats loose. Some stories came out about some feral cats being declawed and yet still survived..

Pigs, if I remember correctly, take this to an extreme. A domestic pig goes feral almost as soon as the gate slaps him in the butt.. tusks start to develop, the hair gets coarser etc etc..
