Blood and Mucus in Feces

Well, a little while ago my kitten (he's about 8 months old) decided to hop into the clean laundry like he normally does and I attempted to shoo him away (he started shedding his winter coat a week or two ago). I went over to scoop him up and he bolted out of the clean towels, looking guilty. Sure enough he decided to make the laundry his toilet. Ugh, it was horrible...not necessarily diarrhea, but his stool were pretty loose. I also noticed a small amount of bright red blood in the feces along with a big string of thick mucus when I went to throw it in the woods.

Anyway, I'm fairly concerned about what may have caused him to have blood and mucus in his feces. I left a message on my vet's answering machine and they should be calling back tomorrow morning. Google seems to say that worms may be the cause of this (it's about time for his second worming this year). Any thoughts? He's eating/drinking normally and is running around like usual. No recent diet changes...

How's your kitty making out? It could be a number of things causing it- worms, a type of kitty parvo (I forgot the actual name but thats what its like)... Did you go to the vet?

So, I took Bailey to the vet today. Bill was $240 A good deal more than I expected originally, but I'm happy I got him checked out!

I was given a wormer and special diet food for him (vet believed he was constipated). His stool sample results will be back soon to see if he has any other parasites, but it was about time for his second bi-annual worming, anyway. I was also concerned about these little scabs that would come and go on his neck...turns out he's allergic to fleas. While I haven't seen any fleas on him recently, the flea feces in his fur say otherwise. So he was put on Front Line for fleas, too. Hopefully he'll be a lot more comfortable and happy now!

He was ALSO finally given his FIV/Feline Leukemia Virus. For the longest time I didn't understand the importance of it. Both came back negative.

By the way, I currently feed Bailey Purina Kitten Chow (he's about 8 months old). I was told to feed him kitten food for a year, but he's getting to be kind of a chunk despite exercise so I'm considering switching him to regular Purina Indoor. I never owned a cat until I moved away to college (dad was deadly allergic), so I'm not too familiar with cat food brands (or cat health). Anyone have any recommendations?

I feed my cats the science diet for indoor cats. I give them both hard and soft food. My vet advised giving them soft food more vs hard food. She said the hard food has alot of carbs.

one good thing about the hard food though is that it helps work their jaws and when they have something to actually chew on then it will help keep down some of the tartar
