I mean she has taken them in and tried to do what's right.

Like I said in an earlier post in this thread, I try to stay realistic. I've been thinking a lot about this since last night because I don't feel I really put my thoughts out there as I intended. I'm an animal lover, I try to help animals in any way I can. I think the cause of animal rescue has grown tremendously and made great positive strides but I also think many rescuers are very offputting and condescending. Rather than gaining support, they push people away.

I frequent Petco in Prince Frederick. Most Saturdays, Petco is full of various rescue groups. Loving animals like I do, I usually stop to look and pet the babies and TRY to chat with the various volunteers. I'd say that the majority of the people I try to engage in conversation are aloof and judgmental, almost to the point of being rude.

I stopped yesterday to pet a few kittens. The women holding them barely spoke. I like to talk about the babies I've rescued, that it's hard for me to take any now because of my work schedule, etc. but it's a great thing they're doing They just looked at me...almost as if I was wasting their time. It's not limited to this group, as I've had the same experiences at other rescue events.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I've seen the rescue side first hand. I understand how frustrating it is to see so many animals needing homes and how people can be so thoughtless when it comes to animals. I know there are too many animals, I know people need to spay and neuter their pets, I know about cruelty and on and on..... BUT..attacking people, making nasty comments and practically calling people stupid...people you don't even know..does far more harm for the animals. Rescuers need to educate, understand peoples' situations and work with people rather than drive them away.
thank you, well put. I am an animal lover. I did not bred the mother that left me the 3 babies I purchased the property, in which the previous owners abandoned her.. However when she trusted me enough to bring the kittens where I could see them, I ordered a hav a heart trap to catch her and the babies to stop the breeding. I did have her altered. Now I have 3 babies that are waiting for a forever home. I have someone, that works with Smawl, that got in contact with the gal that assigns vouchers for spaying so that the babies when they get to the right age/weight can go in and be spayed and neutered. My biggest pet peeve on this is the way GEEK trys to educate folks You mean well but you attack, without the full story. I live within my means but my animals have never suffered. They come first before me on food water shelter and vet needs. It would be nice to have a program like Howard County does to help families without a large income to be able to financially help in pet care esp spay and neutering.

Unfortunately no. Some people get off on putting others down publicly without knowing all the facts.

Age they can be spayed/neutered - 8 weeks and 2 pounds.

Ok, didn't know if you had been told otherwise because you had said "when they get to be the age/weight". I know some vets still go with the older way of waiting until they are about 4-5 months old but that's when "accidents" tend to happen. Thanks for taking care of them.
