My wife would recommend Moosecoons Cattery, run by Susan Blevins. Westminster MD. Perhaps not as "local" as you would prefer.

Good research tools, by the way:

How come you need a breeder? Can't you check around the animal shelters?

Good luck trying to find one. I tried all the local rescue's and the MC rescue club on Yahoo....no luck. I tried for months and just gave up. I wanted a rescue and didn't want to go to a breeder. Maybe in the spring I will try again...keep me posted if you have luck finding a place.

I'm not trying to be dumb but when I looked at the pictures I didn't see any difference between a Maine Coon and a regular cat. Whats the difference?

Maine Coons are usually very big cats...20+ pounds...usually very lovable and just want to be in your lap, playful even when they are old, tend to have markings and fur kind of like a lynx or bob cat. They are also I believe the first "American" breed. But you are right...lot of people have MC cross. The dead give away is the tufts on the ears, and fur around the neck like a mane.

We had a gray cat that maybe was mainecoon or at least part. He was beautiful with the tufts on the ears. He was huge too. Sadly he passed away a year or so ago. I miss him.
