I'm not quite sure if he's peeing or spraying.... I need advice on how to get him to stop. I wash the rugs very frequently...it sounds terrible, but right now I'm afraid to lock them out of the bathroom...I would rather him pee on the rug that's easy to pick up and wash instead of the carpet in another part of the house.

The ONLY thing I can think of why he's doing this is maybe the litter boxes are to small for his large ass. He has no problem pooping in it though...

He gets along with the other cat...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'd really hate to have to kill him.
Are they feral??

What type of litter are you using? He may not like the type of litter you are using.

Has he always done this? i.e., maybe a UTI?
I have 2 of the rubbermaid boxes as well.. One of my male cats likes to shiat right in front of them.. pisses me off!!

I just wanted to let you all know that I bought this tub from Lowes a few weeks ago. Both cats love it. I clean it out twice a day. About 99.3% of the peeing on the bathroom rug has stopped! And the best thing? The tub was only $4.97....a both litter boxes I had cost $13.

I bought my kitty a dome litter box, and luckily he loves it. He was in the habit of pooping on the side of the litterbox, so I was having to scrub it down all the time. And as an added bonus, the dog can't fit his big ole head into the dome litter box.

It's good to find one they like. Your cat is small...mine is 17 lbs...a real lardo...he hated the lid.

This may sound odd...but I have 2 males and 3 females. The males insist that the litter box is spotless! They have even thrown stuff out of the box in order to use it. It has been my experience that the males seem to be more meticulous and tidy, in addition to not liking the lids as the females do. One of my males does not like to share "his" box period! Good luck!

Another option for litter..dont laugh..is chicken feed.
Many rescue groups are using it..soft, cheap and absorbs as well as clay..and it is soft for cats feet.

I use Fresh Step and a big, big box..a plastic storage bin from wal mart.
One of my males is a high marker..and the tall box prevents accidents.

I had an old sick cat and he was peeing in one spot, (on the carpet) could not make it to the box...so I used puppy pee pads..he used them and did ok ( I did not care as long as he was comfortable) until he died from heart disease 4 weeks ago. I still miss the old guy...

Suggest you talk with your vet to rule out ay medical issues and see what he advises.
God luck!
