Free Cats

Hi everyone, I really need help. A friend of mine is moving to florida tomorrow, I think, anyway he has waited till the last minute to try to place his cats. He says he put ads up at other places but I told him he should of put it on somd. Well he finally did a minute ago. These are 2 adult cats, inside and outside, 1 very friendly, 1 not so much. Perfer outside. Anyway He called me and I cant take them. I have lost 2 of my cats in the last 6 months, 1 10yrold from cancer and a 2 yr old with a neuological condition. I still have 2 but am not ready for new ones. I am so afraid he is going to leave them behind to fend for themselves. They have lived in this house for 11 years. If someone could take them, I know he will give food money. Please can someone help, I dont know what he will do. And keep in mind, I do not agree with any of this, I would not move if I couldnt take my pets.

Sounds like a great guy. Why don't you call the rescues and explain the situation. I do know that the ones in Calvert are full right now. But maybe they could help in an emergency situation.

Or you could try your luck with Tri-County. As awful as it is, they'd be better off euthanized than left to fend for themselves.

I just talked to your friend Pat. He said he called SMAWL and they told him to take them to the shelter. I know as well as any else does that if they go to the shelter they will be euthanized. If you could maybe keep them for a short period of time until they can find a home I will circulate on my end. I have made some calls and etc. but I may need more then a day or two to help place them. He did tell me he would pay for their food supply for awhile. They are both males and both up to date on shots.

pm me, maybe we can work out something. As for Pat, he needs euthanized for waiting till the last min. I cant let them go to the shelter to be killed. There has to be another way.

Clarification from SMAWL:
We receive many surrender calls a day for both cats and dogs. Generally, because of the extreme need in our area, SMAWL operates at capacity. This means that every foster home is filled, and many animals remain on a waiting list. We do not, as policy, send people with their family pets, for whom they are responsible, to TCAS.
Since the founding of SMAWL, we have helped thousands of animals find loving homes. SMAWL too, like TCAS, is overwhelmed by the numbers of abused, neglected, and homeless animals in our area. We do what we can--and then some. We applaude Animals4Life for caring about the welfare of these cats and the effort to find them a home. SMAWL is always looking for more foster homes so we can help more animals in need.

I hope the cats are also neutered/fixed ... otherwise, it's just contributing to the overpopulation problems by letting them outside.

Good luck finding a home for the remaining cat.

Thanks, we will keep looking. And yes they are nuetered. The orange one will be the easier one to care for. All he wants out of a human is put out food for him and open the door so he can come and go. He wants very little loving if any.

UPDATE: Pat just called and some guy who lives in wildewood is coming to take the orange kitty Oscar. I wish him well and hope it all works out. These are indoor/outdoor cats that people are going to try to make strictly indoor. Good luck with that.
