Question Problem with email

I need your help. I am having problem with downloading emails into my outlook program. It started yesterday and other people I know that have metrocast aren't having any problems with downloading and receiving thier emails at all. I can view my emails in metrocast.net website, but I could not download my emails. This is the message I got when trying to download:

"Task 'POP.md.metrocast.net - Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x80040116): 'Unknown Error 0x80040116'"

What does that mean?

Everything else on my computer is working just fine and can access internet without any problems as you can see me typing this thread right now.

I've searched the Knowledge Base on Microsoft and found nothing for that error. You may have to de-install / re-install Outlook.

You said Outlook, not Outlook Express? You can create a Personal Folder and drag the contents of your mail/calendar/contacts into it. The file it creates (usually Personal Folder.PST) will not be deleted when you wipe and re-install Outlook. You can recover all your email from the .pst later.

The other thing you can try is to delete your Profile and rebuild it, but you need to recover all your email before doing that too.

I have Microsoft Outlook. Do I need to upgrade to something better?

Is that alot of work? I am afraid to screw something up since I am not a computer whiz. I do need to save all of my emails, address book, etc. Most of it are my Pampered Chef business, Moms' Club, etc.

Thank you for helping me out with the email problem.

Outlook is fine if that's what you are used to. Just wanted to verify what you were actually using.

It's not a lot of work for someone who is familiar with it, but to a novice it can be baffling. Do you have a PC Guru-type friend that could give you a hand?

Error code 80040116 seems to be related to a corrupt PST. The PST is the file that stores all of your email messages on your computer. You may need to repair your existing PST or create a new PST. If the PST is corrupt Outlook doesn't know where to place your mail (i.e. send or receive it).

Go here for help from Microsoft. It has step-by-step instructions on what to do to repair it.

Hey R, Below is the path to my PST and how to view hidden files, you might want to try this;

Run the Inbox Repair Tool
1. Click Start, and then click Search.
2. Under What do you want to search for?, click All files and folders.
3. In the All or part of the file name box, type scanpst.exe.
4. In the Look in list, click Local Hard Drives (C:), and then click Search.
5. In the list of found files, double-click the Scanpst.exe file.
6. Click Browse, and then open the folder that contains the new .pst file that you created by using the "2 GB Truncation" tool.
7. Click the new .pst file that you created, and then click Open.
8. In the Inbox Repair Tool dialog box, click Start.
9. When the file has been scanned, click Repair to repair the errors in the file.

NOTE: This procedure may take several hours.
10. When you receive the "Repair complete" message, click OK.
11. Restart the computer.

You might have to 'view' Hidden files to navigate to the PST file within the tool; to do this - Open 'My Computer' - goto 'Tools' (menu) - Folder Options - View (tab) - Select "Show Hidden Files" button and click "ok" to close all the windows...

Here is the path to my PST -

C:\Documents and Settings\Craig\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\OutlookLeValleyHome.com-00000006.pst

Call me and let me know...
