There really is no difference on USB card or PCMCIA card other than the technology. They both produce the same output, but connect to the PC different. It's like comparing a USB mouse to a PS/2 mouse. It's still a mouse.

Signal is the key.

I just got some software and a usb cable from the local Verizon store tonight. They said I could "teather" and use my phone as a modem. That's kinda neat.

I'm trying it out now. If I don't like it I can return it within 30 days.

I will be out of luck in Aussie though, its only nationwide.

Becareful. I don't know if data minutes and regular airtime minutes are the same. Do they still have data packages?

As far as I know, I'm on the $59.99 plan.

The data package is separate from the phone, so when he is doing a data transfer (using it as a modem, web surfing from the phone, checking e-mails from the phone) it is charged against the data plan, not the voice plan.

So if person doesn't have a data plan can you still transfer data or is it disabled?

You can still transfer, but you get charged by the day (I think it is $1.99) and by the MB... I do not know what that rate is, but it is something goofy...

Ask Doug about it. If I recall that is how he connected to the web a few years back.
