Server software

Anyone know some good software for a server box?
I would like FTP and or web access to it.

Does anyone know of some good FREE programs to let me do this?

Load CentOS or Fedora on the machine... all the server tools you want. Not a penny to spend!

Blah I was really hoping not to go with Linux to keep this free.
I tryed it once and was disgusted with how nothing seemed to want to work right.

I looked some more last night and couldnt find anything. Looks like I might have to borrow some more windows software...

Outside of Linux or Solaris there is not a lot of options - but honestly, Redhat Fedora core or SuSe Linux are really easy to configure for a web or ftp server - the administrative gui's make command line administration almost non-existent. If you need to do something at the command line - just Google it.

For future reference fellow geekies - we have played with most of them out there and we have been testing with Virtual Box - it is really slick.

VmWare Server is still the choice for me - and you can get a free version.
