Congrats! Although for that price, I would have opted for a Dell Vostro 1500!

What's the difference between "dual-core" and "core 2 duo"?

I just bought a core 2 duo laptop 2.4Ghz with xp pro. Still curious about others though.

Vista. I might put dual-boot XP and Linux on it though.

Like I care. Fastest computer I've ever had was a 1.8 GHz solo-core Athlon XP. That runs fast enough for me. Plus, IBM computers are genuinely good machines. I can only think of a few instances where one of them broke at work that was not because a user did something titanically stupid. Good, solid, durable laptops.

Core2Duo has higher benchmark ratings. Less power consumption and more performance.

That said, not a big problem for me since I've never had a 64-bit or dual-core laptop anyway.

Dig it thanks

$500 for a laptop seems pretty decent to me.
