that one on the left is infrared. is that connecting with a cell phone or anything? that is what that message means. something with an infrared connection is in range for you to connect to. so it is nothing related to your wireless, look for something with an ir port on it.

I know it's not Rick's computer because he took his wireless device out of his laptop to make sure it wasn't his.
Did you keep the default 192.168.1.1 router IP? Doesn't sound like its secure.

My son and I have been using the neighbors Internet connection for the last year. I can access his router using the default router IP. Of course I'm not going to ruin a good thing. If you do a "netstat -a that will show you who is connected using your connection. Well you may not know who it is, but you will know its not you by the computer name/names.

Still doesn't sound secure. Need to be aware of how to set your wireless/broadband settings. Check the default settings.

Maybe true and they should check it. The message is because the PC detected an IR connection which means it is within the general area of the PC. They can go into control panel and turn off the IR port.

I don't know what we have around here that would have IR. Yes, we have cell phones, but they've sat around the laptop before. I dunno. It hasn't happened again lately that I've noticed, though.
