Who/What is trying to access my wireless network?

I keep hearing this sound like a "wioooonngg" and a message pops up on my toolbar tray (bottom right thing) saying "usere18382a8a4 is in range". Does this mean my wireless router is detecting some device just in the area, or is someone actually trying to access my internet connection? My wireless network is security-enabled with WPA2.

I know it's not Rick's computer because he took his wireless device out of his laptop to make sure it wasn't his.

sounds like a wireless access point is within range of your computer.

There are four other networks (besides mine) that pop up when I view wireless connections on my computer. They've always been there, though. I just updated my security-enablement on the connection yesterday (I forgot to do that when I changed my modems out a month or so ago), but I was hearing the noise before I did that, as well. Granted, I usually have my speakers on mute, though.

I hear the "wiooonngg" noise, then a "shewwwwww" when it's gone/cleared. But it happens every 30 seconds to a minute.

Looks like somebody is in range of connecting to your PC/laptop, unless that's what the other access point's SSID is labeled.

It's just someone on the fringe of range of reception from you, probably a neighbor. Doesn't mean he's connecting, just that you can see each other.
