Only left side of screen/monitor works!

Help!!! I have a Gateway flat screen monitor (about 3 years old) and yesterday the right side of the screen stopped working. The right half of the screen is pretty much white with a few very thin red and blue verticle lines every 2 inches or so. My question is, is there a way to know if the problem is the monitor or the video card? I don't have a spare monitor or PC so I can't try switching monitors or testing the "bad" monitor on a different PC. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions before I go buy a new monitor. TIA!

See what happens when you unplug it from the computer.

You may need to reboot your monitor.

Unplug all the cables.. don't forget the VGA and the power cable.

Firmly grasp both sides of the monitor and pick it up off of your desk.

Hold it over your head and shake vigoursly.

This should put all the pixels back in place and you should be good for another 4 or 5 years before you have to do it again (depending on usage)
