You can do it either way. Obviously wired will get you better performance, but if you have wireless dead spots in your house you can kill 2 birds with one stone by buying 2 netgear WG602V3 wireless access points. Set them up in wireless bridging mode. You can connect the Xbox up to one of the access points. The other plugs into your existing router, it sucks that you can't use your existing wireless router for this, but this works really well. The additional access point will also act as a repeater to extend your wireless network range. Sounds complicated, but it's really easy and for about 70 dollars (cost of the 2 access points) you can connect the xbox and extend your wireless network. Just my 2 cents.

dont forget you need a the wireless connectivity piece for the xbox. It plus into the back of the xbox and has an antenae (sp?)- they are, i believe ~90-100$, plus the cost of access points from linksys, dlink, netgear etc. It would be cheaper (if thats what you are looking for) to run an ethernet cable. I prefer wireless, but thats just me.

If you think you will use the Netflix ability on the Xbox360, you might want to go with a wired connection. I have mine wired as of now. I did not think 99.00 for wireless on the system was worth it since I can wire it up.
