Recycled paper and Printers

Background.

Worked at PennDOT, IT Admin. PennDOT went PC and started buying recycled paper. We had, on average, 10 calls a day for jammed printers. FINALLY convinced the District Manger PC is PC, but we are spending countless hours unjamming printers, and people are wasting time waiting for printers, and STILL had to convince him it was the paper. Switched paper and went from 10 a day to about 1 call a week for jammed printers.

Now the office here is doing the same thing, and it seems EVERY time I try to print a multi-page document I get a printer jam from hell.

So I google the issue online and EVERY article seems to take a book out of the Gore Book.. It's NOT the paper, recycled paper is GOOD, does NOT cause paper jams.. etc.. etc..

Yet the evidence says different. Why can't we find truth and honesty on the internet, and not a bunch of misleading articles and half truths when it comes to ANYTHING dealing with the environment.

YES, I get it, recycled paper is better for the envirionment.. that's IS a good thing, but if it causes problems or doesn't work, don't LIE about it.

I think I'm going to go to Staples today and buy a box of virgin paper for my printer..

I concur for the best part. We had similar issues here with recycled paper, and I convinced them that virgin would eliminate the problems. It did. However, there were one or two printers that were OK with the recycled paper after I did a deep cleaning of the rollers. As printers age, the rollers get accumulation and get stiff. I have a product that cleans them and helps soften them again. doesn't always work, tho.

So the Solution is

1. Yrly PM - put in the roller / maintenance kit
2. replace your printers ever other yr

We've been using recycled paper at work for probably 10 years. Have NO issues in my office with jams. We've used many different brands. Here at home, we're using Staples brand copy paper with a 20% recycled content. No problems here either.

With today's budgets, you're lucky to GET a printer, let alone replace it every 2 years. Some of those NMCI printers are 5 or better. I have 2 Laserjet 5s that are almost 10 years old, but because they still work and do the job, they will not be replaced.
