Guess you believe all that Apple hype. Have heard very few legit complaints on Windows 7. Best OS coming off the chopping block I've ever heard about, including all those "amazing" Apple variants

I bet Windows 7 isn't compatible with AOL 9.1 and since AOL 9.1 is...AOL...which everyone ditched 5-10 years ago...that's likely the problem.

I took my laptop to work and with high speed everything displayed correctly. Back home with dial-up, I'm in the same boat with those pesky red 'X's. Does that shed anymore light on the problem?

Since AOL seems so unpopular here, who likes what and why?

It means that your dial-up provider isn't working very well with the pictures. When you use AOL, are you using the AOL internet browser? Are you using an external browser once you get your dialup via AOL? I forget how AOL works now. It's either the browser on AOL or it's possible your dial-up is so slow that it abandons the idea of loading the pictures and goes with the friendlier red X so you can actually view the page without waiting an hour on the pics.

I've heard things about Netzero that are positive, but I've never used it myself. I don't know what kind of dialup people use around here though.

sounds like place holders for pics to save on bandwidth

Hey, thanks everyone for your suggestions. This is what appears to have happened. When I upgraded Vista to Windows 7, it seems that my AOL 9.1 didn't support it, so I upgraded to AOL 9.5 which included compatibility with Windows 7 and all my red X's have magically disintegrated! Back in business.
