I have used Mac's since 1988, and PC's since 1995 ....


IMHO;

like buying cars, if it cost more the intelligence level of he buy will generally be higher

any ID10T can afford a Chevette, but someone saving for a down payment on a Corvette knows what he is buying ... unless Daddy just bought that new Porsche, in that case like Paris Hilton, money can buy you a nose job, but not Common Sense and Intelligence

same thing with Macs .... sure they make a $600 Mac Mini .... but when I can get a Dell for 400 bucks and it comes with an 18.5 widescreen that come in flashy colors .... what do you think the average person is going to buy ....

discussing Computers is like discussing Politics or Global Warming .... fan boys on both sides .....


I know Macs can break down just like PC's do ...... but when a firm that says we get less service calls about Macs, is it because Macs only account for 5% of the market share ? or because like a Porsche they are designed a little better .....

Two reasons come to mind:

1) Mac users don't beat their machines like PC users do. They tend more toward basic internet/email usage and video/photos. You'll notice that they don't make the hardcore productivity apps for Mac like they do for PC - probably because Mac users don't need them. If a computer is designed to do one or two things, they can do them well. If it's designed to do a myriad of tasks, something's gotta give.

2) Because the PC is cheaper, it's going to be more attractive to casual users - who typically cannot perform their own basic tech support. I've lost count of how many times my expert advice has consisted of, "Do you have your capslock on?" or "Might have been a momentary glitch - try it again now." My guess is that very few of those troubled souls are Mac users.

And then, what about Linux? I've had my current Ubuntu for about 4 years and it cost me nothing. It's built from parts of a Win 98 system I had that was riddled with viruses and an NT system that I found on a curb when taking a walk through the neighborhood. You know, it's funny how people think Mac users are so uppity and just buy them cause they're bedazzled. I'd take that old Linux system anyday over whatever the latest Windows comes out. I don't go to Starbucks either. I drink Folgers and I drive a '95 truck. I am willing to spend the bucks for a Mac though cause like you said, it's a Porshe, not a Chevette (or Corvair).
