By "battery box" I assume you're talking about your UPS device. The alarm means that you have either kicked the plug out, or you have blown a fuse. It means the box is not receiving any power from your wall socket. Edit: I just noticed that you wrote this message at 1:00 and it's now 1:45, so I figure the bettery in your UPS is now dead, and you're not able to read this - or you've figured it out already, and it's not very helpful :/

| Or it could be bad batteries in the UPS. Depends on the unit. |

A loud whistle like an alarm or quite wistling, like gas escaping from a tiny hole or crack?? -OR- Is this computer a Laptop, and the battery in the laptop is making a wistle noise, lithium batteries can vent also, and the gas is somewhat piosionous (I don't think it does permenant harm, but it is painful and can make you very sick in the short term). Lead Acid batteries vent hydrogen and that can catch fire.

| I am back online. I have extension cords running across my office cause I had to bypass the surge protector, battery back-up box. Which I think you are calling it a USP??? When I hit the power button on the top of the box its alarm is sounding. Do I throw it away and get another one??? |

Uninterruptable Power Supply If it's plugged in and alarming the easiest fix is replacement. You had a power spike and it did it's job and saved your computer from damage. DO NOT BYPASS the Surge Protector
