Facebooks "other" folder...

I am not very schooled in facebook, but what's up with this...

Anna Lamb-Creasey's son had disappeared without a trace. She called hospitals and jails. She waited for days and then weeks and then a month, desparate for a sign of life. She posted to his Facebook page. "Rickie where are you? Love mom."

Rickie was dead.

Lamb-Creasey might have known this sooner—if only she had checked a hidden folder on her Facebook page that most people don't even know exists. Waiting in what's called the "Other" folder was a message from the Clayton County, Ga., police telling her to call them.

She didn't discover the message for nearly a month.

When you send a message to someone you don't know on Facebook, it gets sequestered to the hidden "Other" folder, which only appears as a grayed-out tab on the site's main messages tab. The police, like so many other Facebook users, probably have no idea this happens.

Yeah, I wouldn't rely on facebook for such a thing...

Whatever happened to a damn phone call? Society has become so impersonal!

I do not believe for one second that the cops used freaking FB to notify next of kin.

Calling

I'd like to see that story from a creditable news source. I have a very hard time believing it.

I just looked at mine and saw 18 messages, some from all the way back in 2009. I had no clue.

I didn't know about this folder either and just found this message from September 2011:

"you will not remember me, because you were 5 or 6 the last time we saw you. I used to babysit you and your Brother....have always wondered how your life had been....you are so beautiful (saw your face on your Dad's page)....wanted you to know you have always remained in my heart....it is my hope your life has been full and wonderful.... With much warmth, Judy"

Aww, how sweet. She's right though, I don't remember her

A lot of people don't have home phones anymore, so it's not like they can open up a phone book and find your number.

Facebook, starting with his, would list (usually) next of kin.. Parents, brothers, sisters.. etc..

That and they didn't notify her by Facebook message, the message was for her to call them.

Now I would figure that he would have had a driver's license in his pocket with his address.. I would assume somebody would stop by and knock on the door, unless he didn't live at home.

They can start with the address that is listed on her drivers license.
