Battery Drain Advice

You'll have to buy a new phone if the battery quits on you because they make the battery more expensive than the entire phone! I would advise anyone to take the smallest contract time available to you. Don't take a 2 or more year contract on your phone. I usually take out the 1 year plan and just keep it. If your phone goes bad just buy another one without renewing and you'll avoid the early termination fee. My friend had Nextel and loved the walkie talkie feature for a while but the service was bad and most calls were long distance from home. He paid the $175 to get out of it! I stick with Verizon. Not perfect, but connected most of the time.
The primary reason for accelerated battery depletion in a Nextel phone is the speaker amp in the older ones, the newer ones use a "class E" amplifier for the speaker [or they should].
What is not obvious is battery drain of any cell phone is directly related to the quality of signal it receives. Put another way battery life is somewhat proportional to signal strength, because the transmit power output is dynamically adjusted to track in proportion to the received signal.
So if you have one place in your house with good signal, say a particular window, leave your cell phone on that window sill [not in direct sunlight]and the battery will last much longer- especially overnight when you are not talking. Try this as an experiment overnight for a week and watch the effect!
Before we synthetically illuminated the interior of our house with a strong signal, my Razor was always needing a charge and now it tops off the battery and it stays topped off well, so long as I don"t babble on it like I do in forums.

Girl has a Nextel phone that just deceides to cut off....sometimes it happens when she is texting, sometimes it's when she is trying to make a call, sometimes it happens just because the wind blew in the wrong direction

I've replaced the battery with a new one and it worked fine for about a week, then it started doing it again...

The guy I contract for has the same problem(different style phone) and he has had the phone replaced, as well as, the battery and he still continues to have the same problem

Andy, you had Nextel more than two years ago: Sprint

You can't still be stuck in the same contract. Why don't you switch instead of whining all the time?

The inNetwork is Verizon.

I'm not on NEXTEL anymore. I have Verizon and they rock.
