Question Retirement...

I am 23 years old and I have a good portion of my paycheck going into my 401K every other week....I am wondering if it is a positive thing to have auto rebalancing on your 401K account? Can anyone help?

In general yes, proper allocation (after time) is the most important factor to ending up with a good nest egg.

at 23??

It's not a bad thing, but I think at 23 it's not really worth worrying about.

When you get into your 40's maybe..

But I would hope that the rebalancing won't do anything until you're well into your 40's anyways. You're young, be agressive in your choices.. you can afford a mistake or two..

FWIW here is my allocation 7% Bonds
16% Company Stock
76% Stocks...... I.E. Stock based Mutuals

I reallocate it myself every few months especially with the run our company stock as had recently. Just stay heavily invested in the stock based mutuals or pick one of those funds that has a retirement date associated with it XXX2040 or whatever.

I put 15% in the 2040 fund and still have plenty of funds to get by.

Look for International funds, I made 40% with that and my real estate last year. International is still hot, up 19% this year.

We are offered Fidelity International Stock fund here.

Fidelity Diversified International Fund (FDIVX) Broadly Diversified 20.58% 20.67% 23.24% 13.73% 12.85% 12/27/1991

It is the largest individual mutual fund holding I have in my 401k.
