Patuxent river commissary CHANGES

ok. The prices sometimes cant be beat. especially on dry goods, staples (canned tomatoes, milk, bread, cereal etc. Even on meat sometimes.

Yet we still get a 5% surcharge on everything. And now you can buy their enviromentally green reusable grocery bags for 70 cents a pop and avoid the question of 'paper or plastic'.

Guess what else is new as of today. 4 or 5 stations of SELF CHECKOUT. Yeah for the mere use of them you get to bag your own purchase's and pay the surcharge. AND CART THEM TO YOUR CAR!! But wait. No you no longer need to tip the bagger or make sure the cold items are bagged together etc.

So what do ya'll think that shop there? Myself, if i'm in a hurry and only have a few items I'll give it a try. If it's a huge shopping trip, I going to a registar with a real person taking care of me.

thoughts, critisisims, ideas?

Too funny! I know the kind of people you are taking about. They defeat the whole purpose of trying to get out of there quickly.

I'm not a huge fan of self-checkouts because I think they take away jobs from people who need them. I think they are an excuse for a business to be understaffed in most cases. I would be interested to see how many fewer cashiers they need for each self-checkout. Although it may be a good idea for the lunch time rush, etc. I'm for anything that gets me out of the store faster!

I don't go to the commissary for one or two things so I probably wouldn't use it.

Self checkout is evil, and ought to be outlawed. I'm serious, I think it is horrible and a travesty to human dignity. It makes us slaves to the machines. I absolutely refuse to use self-checkout *ever*.

I shall never complain about anything at the commissary after seeing how much $ I save there.

As for the self checkout lanes- I probably won't ever use them because I normally have a full cart and prefer somebody else do it. Plus, those lanes tend to attract people who make scanning an item rocket science.

As for the bags, I'm not sure about that. Target is selling "green bags". They say if it catches on enough, they'll start giving some sort of discount when you use them. ? Wonder if it'll happen.

You can say that again. Went to Giant. Bought about 10 cans of soup, a loaf of bread, etc. $16.00

I love the ground beef at the Commissary. VERY lean and it actually tastes great.

The price of milk is a real money saver, too.
