Cell phone

I want to replace my cell phone that I've had for 10yrs with a new one. I want to get a flip (clamshell as they are described on ebay) type. I was wondering... is it better to spend the extra $ to get a new/never used one or is buying a used cell phone ok?

I would get a new one - with a new one you have a new battery...

What carrier are you with? After 10 years you should be able to get a new phone at a subsidized price!

I was with Verizon Wireless for years but switched to Sprint about 2 yrs ago. I kept my old phone, just transferred the phone number. I can't find just a plain phone. Don't need all the bells and whistles. Maybe getting the camera feature would be ok but even that's not neccessary.

If you're willing to go with a two year contract, Verizon will give you the phone for free. I'm sure you could get the same kind of deal from other carriers.

Go to Cell Phones, Cell Phone Plans, Cell Phone Accessories - Verizon Wireless

What do you think about getting a used phone and then purchasing a new battery for it? They (batteries) seem to be cheap on ebay atleast. I can't justify spending alot of money for a phone that spends 99% of the time turned off. I use it for emergencys only. In case I break down at 4am or something.

I recently purchased one on ebay and love it...I have had no problems. I was not eligible for an upgrade and hated the phone I had, so ebay was the cheapest route for me.

I decided to bid on a used one on Ebay. Max bid is $35 with an hour to go. Had someone try to outbid me but my max was higher. Will be on the road home when it ends so I will have to check to see if I get it or not. There were no other bidders before me so I am hoping this other person gave up.

if you get a new phone the carrier will cover any problems for the first year and if you buy insurance the rest will be covered, and you are eligible for a new phone every year or so depending on your contract. if you get a phone on ebay and it was reported stolen then you are screwed and can't conncect so you will have to get an other one. might be cheaper dollar wise at that moment but in the long run it might not be. plus who ever you are with now will surley replace it after 10 yrs just to keep you as a customer.

Which provider do you prefer? Sprint also has free phones.
