im less than 2 miles from the CO... so i am not to worried ;)

Now with FIOS, for the 1st year, we are paying $135/month! (internet/tv/phone) And it will jump up to 170 a month after that for our service and cable boxes, and we have HBO
Saving 110/month for a year = $1300 saving, for me, then after that its still cheaper than what I paid for comcast by $70/month. Its much cheaper for me
You'd be correct! It is inherently cheaper to maintain fiber also, since light rays travel faster & farther without the need for amplification that copper/coax has. There's a LOT less to go wrong because the things that cause copper/coax troubles don't affect fiber (insects, power induction, water, deterioration, oxidation, etc).
And, fiber optic cable signals are always "cleaner" and faster in regards to signal quality and transportability. Vince77 should realize that it's probably his computer that is slowing him down. With cable and FiOS, most computers are slower than the ISP bit rates.
I'd only need internet and home phone however, so I'll wait to see their rates before I switch from copper. I'm on DSL so why change?

I never paid $200 a month for Comcast and had all three services for more than 10 years. You simply call complain and they drop the rate. Comcast actually has a retention dept, you're transferred to them if you threaten to drop theiri service because of cost. They are totally inept.

FIOS, Comcast offer complicated bundled service agreements, rates change, it's all there to confuse you. After the first year, you'll understand when i say they cost about the same. Enjoy your new TV.

I called comcast about 2 months before FIOS got turned on here and said, look FIOS will be here soon and was wondering if you all could do anything to help me lower my rates.. the person i spoke to said "nope we cant do anything for you" i just said ok and hung up.

About a month goes by and i call them again and pretty much say the same thing.. again "sorry sir we cant do anything"

FIOS gets turned on and i order it and get it installed....i returned my comcast equipment the same day and canceled my service...

TWO days after i return all of my comcast cable boxes and go have my service disconnected, the phone rings... yep its comcast asking why i discontinued service, then promptly tried to get me to come back for much cheaper rates than what i was paying before.... i stopped the women that called in her tracks and was like "Whoa Whoa WHOA STOP... NOW you want to give me a better rate (then explained to her what i had done 2 times in calling them and was told sorry cant do it.. I then said

"So Sorry I Cant Do IT, *** You Guys" and hung up heh

I've noticed more than half of my neighborhood has switched to FIOS, I see techs almost every day somewhere putting fios in or the little crews digging yards up prepping it.. comcasts retention department isnt doing a very good job if you ask me haha

I called comcast when our tripple play contract expired, told them I was looking into fios. They offered me 2 years, phone, internet, cable, all movies and sport packages for under $200. I asked a fios salesman if he could match that price and he said no. So I stayed with comcast.

I didn't realize that Comcast had contracts. Does Verizon?

Comcast Retention Dept- I did that for 2 years. Call them, ask for that department and skip about 15 minutes and telling your story to 3 different idiots. They have the power to make the changes; don't think any of the other ones do.

All data/dialtone/video companies play by the same rules. If you have a choice; they will fight for your business. If you don't; over the barrel you go to pay for all the bargains they have to give to those that have choices.

I just signed up for Verizon. Extreme HD, 3 HD boxes with one being a media box (DVR that can be watched at any TV in the house) and internet. 25M up/down BUT the up rate is BS; they don't really offer 25M to residential is what they lady told me and I've never ever seen a 25M upload at work (COT @ Verizon). $135/mo

$179 fee if I cancel within 1 year. Price protection/no rate increases for 2 years.

Thats cause they sell a 25/15 right now due to limitations on Moto BPON and Tellabs BPON. If your on a Alcatel GPON or Moto GPON you would see 25/25 all day. The Tellabs and Moto BPON's are provisioned at 25/25 but you won't see full rates until January 2010 after we finish our ORT.

Mark also if you had gotten 15/5 you would still get 25/25.......15/5 and 25/15 are provisioned the same at 25/25.

Also we began setting up our testing requirements for 110/50, 150/50 and 200/75. Should be a interesting year next year.
