Car Insurance

So after 25 years with the same insurance company and same agent too, I'm being dropped because I got 4 seatbelt tickets within the past 3 years. I know that is my own fault for getting the tickets, but I didn't think that they would drop me after all those years. In all those years I've only had 2 claims which I don't think is bad at all. So I'm thinking about trying Progressive or Geico. Any thoughts on them or any other recommendations?

All you can do is call around as the results someone else gets will not necessarily match yours (cost difference between them). I was with Allstate the longest and they did nothing but keep increasing my premiums until I got fed up and left - the reason for the increases they said was that the price of parts and labor kept going up. Okay that only matters on MY policy IF I filed claims - HELLO ........ I didn't.

So just make a list of companies with their phone numbers, and start calling. You'll get a variety of prices that will make you wonder how the pricing can be so different from one company to another. Shake your head, then pick one.

I know. I got one in front of my house. They were shooting radar, I was coming down my street and took it off about 100 feet away from my driveway. Then pulled into my driveway, he walk up my driveway and asked for my license. Then he said I wasn't wearing my seatbelt. I told him I had just took it off as I was coming up to my house. He said I know, I saw you take it off. But you're supposed to wear it until you turn the engine off. And gave me a ticket. The law is the law but give me a break. And one was in the parking lot of Target. I just pulled out of my parking spot and was goin down an isle, I hadn't pulled out of the lot yet and I got a ticket. I other two were completly my fault. I can't complain because I wasn't wearing it.

But I will check out Liberty Mutual though.

I was in the same boat as you. Started out with Nationwide at age 16 under my parent's plan then by myself once I had my own vehicle. Just recently (this month) I switched to State Farm and I'm saving half of my premium for the same coverage AND I have a great agent. I've never filed a claim in all my driving years, but I do get a speeding ticket every few years.

I received my ONLY speeding ticket when I was about 19 years old. I'll tell you the ticket you DON'T want, it's the one I got last year - passing a school bus - that costs $570.

It was on RT 301 South in Waldorf and I was in the far left lane, never saw the bus ....... I was told it was in the far right lane. 2 of us passed it, so it wasn't just ME that didn't see the bus in all that heavy traffic. I went to Court on that to avoid the points. So in my life I've only ever had 2 moving violations thankfully.

While I was in Court I saw a lady get up to say she was new to area for why she was speeding. The judge said ... you don't have speed limits where you came from? The whole Courtroom chuckled LOL

Just playing Devil's Advocate here Rich, but every agency you apply with will probably see you've gotten 4 tickets for seat belt infractions. IF they agree to insure you, which could be questionable, I wouldn't be surprised if you were assigned to a high risk category and had a hefty premium.

Since when did you have to belt up to drive a motorcycle?
