| Boy broke his Iphone screen.....thats bad Boy has to save money to replace screen....thats good:) Apple fuses digitizer and LCD into one pic, making the replacement cost $77, instead of the $30ish the LG Ally the girl broke a couple of years ago cost. - Thats bad Theres a company called PhoneDoctors, who sell a kit with the needed drivers (who the hell keeps a jewellers size pentalobe around?:)) spudger, and the best part, a thing called a "ScrewMat". Screwmat has a color picture of the back of the device and places for the various RF shields and screws, magnetized so things dont wander. Thats VERY, VERY good. I was able to replace the screen, dealing with all the tiny connectors and screws. Only to find at the end that video that details every part of the install neglects to mention the speaker screen, so I get to take it all apart again, that's bad. In all, replacement screen cost less than 5 months of warranty coverage. And I gained knowedge I didnt have before. Any monkey with good near vision and a steady hand can do this.

| My son has done the same sort of thing to repair a couple of his phones now. I don't think I could talk him into a warranty now that he's confident about repairing himself, though he now uses a ruggedized holder (skin?) for his phones.

| I changed my first iPhone screen last week. It was for an iPhone 4 and it was a bit easier than I had expected. You just have to have the mindset that you aren't going to try to rush through it, that way you take your time with the various ribbon cable connections and screws and don't damage or strip anything. glhs837 - 2 questions: Is there a reason why you bought such an expensive replacement screen / digitizer? I looked at a lot of distributors trying to figure out if there was a quality difference between the screens I found at significantly different price points. After reading various comments, I came to the conclusion that it was mostly a matter of some distributors taking advantage of, e.g., name recognition. The screen I bought wasn't the cheapest I found, but it was a decent price - $32. Its performance (screen quality, touch sensitivity, resistance to fingerprints) seems to be the same as with the original screen / digitizer. It seems most all of the distributors claim to be selling OEM parts, but I suspect that's shorthand for OEM spec parts - I'm sure none of them are actual Apple parts, best case they're made from components produced by the same suppliers that supply Apple. The thing I was most worried about with the screen I ordered was the quality of the coating applied to the screen, but even that hasn't been a problem. Also, did you have any problem getting the corner screw that held the screen to the mid-frame seated? I'm referring to the one in the top right corner as you look at it from the back. There were some components in that top right corner that didn't get removed and they prevented me from getting the screw on the plane it seemed to need to be on to catch. It was easy enough to get it out, but I couldn't get it back in.
