Does anyone do yoga?

Can you recommend local establishment? I thought I saw a yoga place in Wildewood

Do most places have mats that you can rent or use?

What do you like about yoga?

Yes. Four times a week.

Local to where? I can recommend for northern Calvert.

I believe that most places you take your own mat. You can get one at Walmart for $10 to start and see if you like it. Some studio owners will keep an extra one or two on hand just in case.

What do I like? Where do I start? I like that my yoga teacher adjusts & personalizes her lessons to suit the ability of the students. I like that it is a personal challenge with me to do better each time and not that it's a challenge to do better than anyone else (I'm really not into competitive sports). I like that I really get in a good workout without it seeming like a workout. I like that each session is different so I don't get bored. I like the philosphy behind yoga and I am learning more about it every day. I like that I am so very much more flexible now than I was when I started with one session a week last January. I like that I can work on toning different muscles without having to use a lot of complicated equipment or run my ass off in all kinds of weather. I enjoy the music. I enjoy the meditation. I enjoy my classmates. And most of all, I enjoy the workout clothes -- yoga pants are the most comfortable thing I've ever worn!!

The senior center in Leonardtown has it twice a week for age 50 and over.

I'm in California

Thanks for the info. For some reason I thought the upfront costs were more, and I didn't want to invest much until actually trying it.

I was a swimmer and like to run, but I was thinking about trying something different. My goal is to tone and to help with anxiety/stress. I've heard that yoga can be great for both.

I'll ask my daughter -- she lives in St. Mary's (Leonardtown area) & I think has done some yoga down there somewhere.

All you need is a mat, a t-shirt & some loose fit pants (yoga, sweats, whatever). Minimal investment to start. I just happen to have this goal of finding the perfect-fitting yoga pant (difficult when you're short) so I've got a bit more invested .

Yoga is very, very, very good for anxiety & stress. That's one of the reasons that I love it and do it so frequently. One class per week will help in this area. I started doing it more because it was so helpful in that area (and because I'm not self-disciplined enough to make myself do it on my own ). Try it! You will love it!

I'll give you my yoga teacher's spiel about "runners" and yoga. If you are a runner, it is very beneficial as runners tend to have shorter hamstrings from running. Yoga will help you lengthen those hamstrings so you can bend over & touch your toes easily. (Yoga teacher was a runner when she started yoga years ago so she knows!)

Yeah, you're going to want your mat especially after you see how much you're going to sweat during a good session.

I do...this is my instructor Salvador.

I really do yoga, but it's so boring and I had to post something to make it exciting.

Hmmm...not sure I'd actually get any productive yoga accomplished if Salvador was my instructor...

Hollywood power yoga is a great Dvd if you want to try it out before going to a class!
