Beautiful Red Am Staff for adoption

I have a beautiful red Am Staff for adoption to a no dog home. She is incredible with all people, great and small. :)

She had a tough life and I have been fostering her since Thanksgiving. She is about 5 years old, housebroken and crate trained. She is UTD on her shots and spayed.

When she came to me, she was covered in ring worm which have now all died off. She has tested positive for heartworm and I have started her on preventative to prevent future development. I can not afford the treatment to kill off what she already has. The vet said that she will test negative in about 3 years so long as she is kept on a regular heartworm preventative.

Almost all of her scars are healed up now and she is looking for someone to snuggle on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and a movie. Will you take this sweet girl on a date?

Isn't the rescue paying for her meds

No, becuase she is a private rescue. I take in dogs (usually pit types) when I can. I have a lot of connections with several rescues and they help out when they can. SPOT paid for her spay for me. (THANK YOU SPOT!!!)

She was surrendered to me and I have had her since. I wanted to make sure that she could settle into a stable life before finding her a home. She is a great dog. Loves to play. Walks around the house with a tennis ball in her mouth and loves to snuggle on the couch.

She is mild/moderately dog aggressive. Has met mine through fences. Seems ok with them if they approach in a non-aggressive manner. She gets aggressive if she is approached aggressively (fast and with hackles raised). I have muzzled her and allowed her to play with my submissive dogs and she does okay. She is a very "in your face" kind of dog with the others but it isn't aggressive. I think that she is just so excited to be with the other dog that she can't help herself.

I would like to see her go to a no dog home because I would rather not take the chance that a fight might break out.

Anyone interested in this pretty lady? I am getting together with Sarah Lynn this weekend and she is going to take some nice pictures of her.

Odd way of treatment..you do know it can be dangerous to do that, right?

If you would like us to courtesy post her on our site send me a write up and some good pictures. katmc@secondhoperescue.org

(although I am behind on getting all the other dogs listed too.... too many dogs, not enough homes or times...)

Treating her with preventative is not odd at all and very common. Yes, the existing heartworms can cause more damage before they finally die, but performing the treatment to kill them now is just as risky.

Heartworms is kind of a no-win situation. It would have been better if she had been treated properly from the start, but that isn't the case. I am doing what I can for her.
