I have seen some real nasty Labs... dog aggressive and people aggressive.
I would also like to be known that the Pits are not the "only" dog that will "lock" their jaw while "in the fight". I'm sure most people have never seen police dogs work or be trained.... but that is what each Shepherd, and Malinois are trained to do. They will not let go and most GSD's will bit over and over doing the most damage.

I own GSD's and have for many years. My GSD right now had the opportunity and reason to tear the living SH*T out of a Lab. This Lab out of no where bit him right in the face... and was not letting go. What did my GSD do? He grumbled but never retaliated...... to my surprise! He walked away while the Lab was wanting more.

So CATT is right.... each breed of dog has the ability to bite and inflict damage..... its up to the owner to be responsible.
A golden retriever bite my sisters face badly.

See, that's the point that people miss in these dog threads. Little dogs may bite more than big dogs, but a big dog can kill you rather easily or at least cause serious damage.

My female pit has grown intollerant of other dogs but females she's horrible with which suprises me since it was 2 juvenile males that gave her the most grief. Slotted brings his dog over (female, I can't remember what but looks like a border collie but with no tail) and they have to be kept completely seperate because there is no opportunity to avoid a fight. Luckily the couple times they've gotten into it one of us has been right there to pull them apart. His dog having long hair is also helpful because mine usually gets a mouthful of hair and no meat.

We had a golden once. She grabbed hold of my Yorkie mix and popped both his eyes out of his skull! Needless to say he did not survive the attack and she ended up in quarantine for a while. I sent her back to the adoption agency we got her from. I could not have that dog around my kids, if she could do that to that tiny little dog what could she do to one of my kids!!!

When most people think of dauchsunds they think of the minature versions. A standard dachsund is not all that small and has a very strong jaw.

Locally the only totally unprovoked fatal attack that I can remember is the pom who mauled/killed the infant. And by totally unprovoked I mean no one messing with or near the food/water, no multiple dogs whereas someone trying to break up a fight between dogs got attacked. I may be wrong or have forgotten if something else had happened but that's the only unprovoked fatal I can think of.

Whad a cocker spaniel that got his eye popped out by a GSD as a puppy. He lives. Just had one eye sewn shut.
