I'm not surprised in the least. Smaller dogs are notoriously more yappy and aggressive. I've been bit by a chihuahua (sp?) that came up from behind me and got the back of the thigh. He wasn't trying to protect anything, he was just being a mean little buggar. Too bad he was too small and fast for me to kick the crap out of him for it.

When I was a wee lass (back in the olden days) my neighbors dachsund would go out of its way to come over into my yard, sneak up on me, and bit me. I have scars on my shins to this day. My Mother finally told the neighbor that the next time it happened she was going to shoot the little black S** of a B****! Miraculously, the dog didn't get out anymore.

Chihuahuas ranked second on the list of aggressive dogs, while Jack Russell Terriers came in third.

My little shih tzu's have never tried to bite anyone, no aggression whatsoever. I found it astonishing when my 110 pound lab mixed was attacked by a pit bull, the shih tzu went off trying to protect her The lab survived, just barely. The shih tzu was too quick for the pit to get before I could grab him and shove him back into the house, but his spunk to save her was impressive. There was no way he would have survived that and I'd be sitting in jail after I got done with the pitbull owner. I did threaten her that if I EVER saw her dog anywhere near my house again, it wouldn't survive the second time.
