Sorry for your loss but good for you for being able to make that very difficult decision. To many people know their pet is in pain and for their own selfish reasons, prolong it since they don't want to say goodbye. We are all here for you if you need anything.

My husband knows a guy who is doing that to his dog. Poor dog has a softball size tumor on her side that bleeding and the stupid guy won't do the decent thing and end her misery. I wonder if I call A/C on him if they can "force" him to do it??? That has to be labeled animal cruelty even though the reasons behind it isn't meant to be cruel.
