I had a dog with seizures and the meds were very cheap. Dr gave me a bag of white powder (which he put a prescription label on incase I got pulled over, ) and I just mixed it with water as needed. I think she got 2ccs a day and I never had to get a refill. It was maybe $20.

The shelters are telling me that the medicine is cheap also, but the problem is she cannot afford the testing to see why he is having them, they think it is his liver and they want to do sonograms, bloodwork etc. They told her it would cost like 800-1000.00 to do it. She just doesnt have the money for that, He has had 2 seizures in the last couple of days but before that he had only one.

is the dog on any meds now?

for the love of god... what vet does she go to!

I would start with a CBC, Chemistry and Elecrolytes.... for starters

has she started him on flea meds or any toxins around the house.... that the first place to look at!

Usually seizures could be caused by something in the brain if not a toxin issue... there are many things that it could be... or it could be Idiopathic

My beagle has had seizures since he was about a year old (8yrs ago). He has blood work (for the liver) once a year for $150 and his Potasium Bromide costs about $40 for 2 months. He never had to go through sonograms. It is definately frightening thing at first, but we are used to them and they have become less frequent. He knows when one is coming and he gets very clingy, we'll lightly hold him through it then I take him outside after because he wants to pee.

Please don't give up him for something that can be very managable. I did the same thing, I paniced and thought I was going to stuck with a life time of expensive vet bills. Not the case at all.

Why wouldn't she take the dog in and have him put down?

.... with Potasium Bromide... you do have to do bloodwork sometimes every 6 months depending on how high the doseage is.

but you are right... dont give up on the pup! I have a friend that their dog had Grand Mal Seizures and lived 10 yrs with the help of meds.

there are many dogs that have seizures and can live a fine life with the help of meds... some vets are not comfortable treating seizures.

$100,000 in cash, up front, with the dog to cover it's medical bills and I'll take it.

If the dog croaks the money is not refundable.

If the money runs out you agree to take the dog back.

Serious offers only please.

And I'll check the cash with a McKay marker before accepting it.
