Great Danes

We just got done meeting a three year old Dane we are more than likely going to get. But I wanted to know how much should we expect to spend on his food? Also, what brand of food do you recommend? Thanks!

Congrats great dog. A good friend of mine had one that was technically a harlequin, even though he was 95% black and had a white patch on his throat. Super obedient and super loyal, one of the best dogs i have evre had the pleasure of being around and i was around him a lot. Protective of the people he loved, but super kid friendly and to them he looked like a pony.

I saw one at the vet a few weeks ago, so sweet and gentle. She was huge. She sat on the chair like a person and her feet touched the floor. It was comical. If I had the room, that would be my next dog, but with a GS now, space is limited. Congrats to you.

Thanks! He is a beauty. All black with a white patch on his throat just like you described. He was very lovable. They just had a baby so they can't provide the attention anymore. He got along great with our lab and kids, so I think he will be a good fit. :)

They should tell you what he eats and if it's working or him, best not to change it. As far as how much, I would think they should be able to tell you that also.

No harm here but if you have to ask about how much food is going to cost maybe you should re-visit getting a Great Dane (nickname Heartbreak breed.) Please do your research on owning a Dane if you haven't had owned before.

I've owned 2 Danes so I know of what I speak.

I meant it as so I'm not terribly shocked. I don't want to feed him junky dog food so that's why I asked. We can afford it, no issues there. But thanks for your concern.

She used to work at a vet and recently quit, but she said he eats a prescription food just because it was way better and she could get it for really cheap. So she said we can change it to anything we want. So that's why I was looking for recommendations. We just switched our lab to Blue.

For my dog, I have tried ALL (and I mean all) the expensive stuff, everything she ate seemed to go right through her, finally switched her to Beneful Puppy and not only does she love it, she's doing really well with it.

That's good :) What kind of dog is she? We used to feed him pedigree. Recently he started to shed a lot and had a few balding spots so the vet thought he developed an allergy to the grain (which honestly we didn't know was like us eating McDonalds everyday). He is doing a lot better and his hair has grown back.
