Board honors exemplary students

The Board of Education honored five students on Tuesday, Nov. 13, for their accomplishments in academic achievement, career readiness and personal responsibility, which are the focus areas of the school system's master plan.Honored were Orianna Eldridge, fifth grade, Dr. James Craik Elementary School; Natalie Chirinos-Deleon, fifth grade, Dr. Thomas L. Higdon Elementary School; Addison Kindrick, fifth grade, Malcolm Elementary School; Eric Wood, fifth grade, J.C. Parks Elementary School; and Lauren Holmes, eighth grade, Benjamin Stoddert Middle School.Eldridge was honored in the area of academic achievement. She has received straight A's on her report card in all classes and demonstrates personal responsibility. Eldridge serves as a role model for her peers and participates in extracurricular activities. She is a member of the school chorus and band, the Mathematics, Engineering and Science Achievement (MESA) and math teams, Knowledge Bowl and is a student council representative for her class.Chirinos-Deleon was honored in the area of career readiness. She is an outstanding student and has consistently earned grades to earn a spot on the principal's honor roll. Chirinos-Deleon is a member of several extracurricular activities including the safety patrol, math team, chess club and robotics. She plans to pursue a career in medicine after graduation. Kindrick was honored in the area of personal responsibility. He is a positive, kind and optimistic student. Kindrick exceeds expectations for classroom performance, personal goal setting and modeling good character and is an exemplar student. He is consistently on the honor roll while participating in extracurricular activities. He is a member of the math team, Destination Imagination (DI) and MESA. Wood was honored in the area of career readiness. He has earned honor roll grades each marking period and has scored advanced on the Maryland State Assessments (MSA) in both reading and math. He is involved in school activities including the math and dream teams and MESA. After he finishes school, he plans to study to become a lawyer or detective. Holmes was honored in the area of academic achievement. She is an excellent student who displays great enthusiasm for her studies, is assertive and prepared in the classroom. She is enrolled in the scholars course of study and participates in extra-curricular activities. She is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, drama club, lego robotics and builder's club. The board honors several students each month for their accomplishments. Charles County Public Schools provides 26,700 students in grades prekindergarten through 12 with an academically challenging education. Located in Southern Maryland, Charles County Public Schools has 35 caring community schools that offer a technologically advanced, progressive and high quality education that builds character, equips for leadership and prepares students for life, careers and higher education.
