Did I misunderstand and you are saying that in fact I did, or do know the people involved?

Ridiculous

They're job is to teach! I was taught to shoot a .22 rifle in the basement of my high school in upstate NY. It was a firing range with the gym teacher TEACHING!

I believe the federal government is so involved in our education that the Local community can't teach what THEIR community needs.

Ask a Maryland Certified College graduate of teaching if they were ever taught in college "How to develop a Curriculum for a given course?"

No offense to you, but I see this often.

And wonder why we allow these laws to pass in the first place. Why is it that we always have to fight to get stupid laws TAKEN AWAY, but adding them doesn't seem to be a problem?

In the case of zero tolerance, advocates (parents, school systems, parents, doctors, parents, etc.) lobbied and testified for a couple years. Their voices drowned out those who were in favor of some common sense being injected. The Legislature got tired of hearing it. This year MSDE backed away and changed the consequences for some violations (ISS instead of suspension). That was done because the numbers were messing up the NCLB and Race to the Top statistics.

You've seen the same thing with the anti-bullying push the last couple years.

They don't even call in-school-suspension (ISS) anymore. Now it's called in-school-intervention (ISI) so they don't have to classify it as a suspension.

Ten day suspension, request for expulsion. That's standard. He'll likely get long term suspension for the rest of the semester, coming back in January.
